Job Title: Product Manager Position: Full-Time Reports To: Senior Director, Products Bargaining Unit: yes Salary: $90,453 - 94,584 Work Location: Remote (U.S.-based); Eastern or Central time zone required Schedule: Standard operating hours 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. ET Target Start Date: As soon as possible About National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) The National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) is the leading national voice for dignity, respect, and recognition for domestic workers in the United States. NDWA was founded in 2007 by organizers and worker leaders in six cities representing nannies, house cleaners, and care workers, and now represents an alliance of more than 76 organizations across 22 states and 395,000 domestic workers nationally. We envision a society where domestic work is valued as essential to our collective well-being, domestic workers are leaders in shaping the care sector, and domestic work jobs are good, economically secure jobs. For over 15 years, we’ve worked to advance our mission by making domestic work visible. We’ve worked to pass policies that enable rights and higher wages for domestic workers across the country, changed public awareness and opinion about the dignity and value of care work, and built the capacity and leadership of domestic workers to organize and advocate for their rights. We see the next era of our organization as an opportunity to move domestic work from newfound visibility towards transformation, and we’re ready to elevate care workers to the essential workers of the 21st-century economy. We’re a multi-racial, multi-lingual organization building a powerful movement rooted in the human rights, dignity, and equality of domestic workers, care workers, immigrant women, and women of color. Position Summary The Product Manager leads the day-to-day strategy, discovery, development, delivery, and continuous improvement of NDWA's public-facing digital products. This role co-owns the product roadmap alongside the Senior Director of Product for two connected products: Ask Aya, our bilingual AI-powered assistant that helps domestic workers know their rights, name their worth, and navigate the legal and labor landscape of care work; and the Membership Center, the digital home where Aya lives and where workers become NDWA members — including the internal admin backend that organizing and program staff rely on. Ask Aya is in production and serving workers today, and NDWA is investing to grow it significantly. That growth depends on three things happening at once: acquiring and retaining workers who have never had a product built for them, holding a high bar for AI quality in a domain where wrong answers carry real consequences, and building the internal infrastructure — evaluation systems, SME content pipelines, admin tooling — that lets a small team ship responsibly at speed. This role owns the connective tissue across all three. The portfolio is expected to expand. As NDWA's AI work matures, this role will help shape what comes next: new worker- and organizer-facing tools, deeper backend and data capability, and the possibility of making our systems, evaluation methods, and learnings available to the broader worker-organization field. The Product Manager grows with that portfolio and is expected to bring a point of view about where it should go. Working closely with a senior engineer, engineering and UX contractors, a design agency, the digital and communications teams, policy and organizing staff who serve as subject matter experts for our AI systems, and external partners including Anthropic and independent evaluation partners, the Product Manager translates ambiguous problems into clear priorities, shippable work, and measurable outcomes for workers. This is a rare opportunity to do genuinely novel work — building AI infrastructure for a population systematically underserved by technology, at a moment when the field is still being defined. What You'll Own Ask Aya — Growth and User Experience Drive growth in Aya usage, with a focus on the full funnel from cold audience acquisition through login, first meaningful conversation, and long-term retention Own the UX pipeline for unauthenticated (guest) users — a critical dependency for reaching workers who don't yet have an NDWA account Partner with the design agency and Senior Engineer to ship guest access, landing page, and membership conversion flows Define and track the north star metric (significant Aya conversations) and the supporting metrics that tell us whether we're actually serving workers AI Quality and Evaluation Own the eval infrastructure alongside the Senior Engineer — you'll understand what's being tested and why, and you'll drive the roadmap for improving it Manage the L1–L4 evaluation framework: from tool-call unit tests to response quality rubrics to longitudinal outcome measurement Coordinate SME involvement (policy and organizing staff) in ground truth calibration and rubric refinement — this is collaborative, human-in-the-loop work Work directly with Anthropic and evaluation partners to build and iterate on test scenarios, worker personas, and the rubric system Translate eval outputs into concrete product actions: prompt edits, RAG updates, guardrail improvements LLM Infrastructure and SME Workflow Manage the ongoing content pipeline between policy/organizing SMEs and the AI system — who owns which knowledge, how it gets updated, how accuracy is verified Partner with the Senior Engineer on prompt architecture, retrieval system design, and tool-calling reliability You don't need to be an engineer, but you should be comfortable reading code, understanding API documentation, and contributing to technical discussions with informed opinions Membership Center Own the product roadmap for NDWA's member-facing digital platform, including the internal admin backend used by staff Manage the integration between Aya and the Membership Center — Aya is increasingly the entry point for membership Track, prioritize, and resolve bugs and issues in collaboration with the engineering team Field-Building (Longer Horizon) Contribute to NDWA's positioning as a field leader in responsible AI deployment for worker organizations — what we're building has implications beyond NDWA, and there may be opportunities to make our tools and learnings available to the broader field in some form Support funder-facing storytelling with product evidence: usage data, eval outcomes, worker impact stories What We're Looking For Required At least 3 years of product management experience, preferably with a consumer-facing or mission-driven product Genuine curiosity about AI — you follow developments in the field, you have opinions about how LLMs work, and you want to understand the systems you're managing at a technical level Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams without losing track of what matters Proficiency in agile/lean product methodologies — comfortable with sprint planning, backlog management, and iterative experimentation in a fast-moving environment Experience working closely with engineers — comfortable in sprint planning, able to write clear specs, and willing to dig into a GitLab issue or a prompt when needed Strong analytical instincts — you use data to make decisions, and you know which metrics are signal versus noise Excellent written and verbal communication; able to translate between technical and non-technical audiences Alignment with NDWA's mission and a genuine commitment to economic, racial, and gender justice Strongly Preferred Experience with AI/LLM products — evaluation, prompt engineering, RAG systems, or similar Native or fluent Spanish or experience building products for bilingual and Spanish users Background in social impact, organizing, or working with low-income communities Experience working in a lean, resource-constrained environment where you had to make smart tradeoffs What Makes This Role Unusual You'll have significant autonomy. The Senior Director of Product sets strategic direction and manages key external relationships, but day-to-day product decisions are yours to make and own. You'll work on a small, high-trust team where your judgment matters and your fingerprints will be on the product. You'll be close to the technology. This isn't a role where you hand off specs and wait. You'll be in the weeds on how the AI actually behaves — what it gets wrong, why, and what to do about it. You'll see the impact directly. The workers using Aya are real people navigating real hardships. When the product works, it works for them. Compensation This is a full-time position with a salary range of $90,453 - 94,584. NDWA offers an excellent benefits plan including 401(k) plan with a 3% employer match, healthcare fully paid by the employer, two annual office closures, and much more. NDWA is a Union employer, this is a bargaining unit position. We value a truly diverse workforce and a culture of inclusivity and belonging. People from historically disadvantaged communities, such as Women, People of Color, People with Disabilities, and LGBTQIA+ people, are strongly urged to apply. NDWA is a union employer, this is a bargaining unit position. NDWA participates in the E-Verify program and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Application Process Please submit a resume and answer the application questions in lieu of a cover letter. Describe any relevant experience you have that applies to this position, especially related to AI product development.
