Inside the Role The Product Compliance Specialist plays a key role in ensuring that on-highway and nonroad heavy-duty engines and aftertreatment systems meet both external regulatory requirements and internal standards. The main purpose of this role is to maintain oversight of system hardware and software changes, from a regulatory compliance viewpoint, to ensure that all relevant emissions, GHG, and OBD regulations continue to be met considering the requested product changes. This position is responsible for coordinating, preparing and planning change notifications, cross-functional assessment of changes with development teams, and maintaining local and global alignment on related processes. In addition, the Product Compliance Specialist monitors existing and proposed regulations, evaluates their potential impact, provides guidance to development teams, and advises leadership accordingly. This role also supports the implementation and auditing of compliance processes, working closely with cross-functional teams and global PCMS (Product Compliance Management System) teams to maintain alignment with applicable standards. The Product Compliance Specialist provides guidance to product development teams and operations on regulatory considerations related to changes, testing protocols, labeling, and configurations. Furthermore, this position will be instrumental in fostering and maintaining a compliance culture throughout multiple groups and departments. We Take Care of Our Team Position offers a starting salary range of $104,000 to $133,000 USD Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience. What You Drive at DTNA Conduct assessment of software, calibration, controls, or component changes for potential emissions or OBD impact and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance is maintained Provide feedback on powertrain hardware and software product changes for on-highway and nonroad systems using the ICM system to assess compliance impact and work effort; Drive local team effort and task planning from these outcomes Establish new working models cross-functionally and globally to proactively assess product changes impacting emissions and/or OBD before they are entered as a formal change request Review and approve design releases through SAFIRA after ensuring all compliance and regulatory obligations are met Create and optimize processes, checklists, and work instructions with cross-functional teams in engineering and operations to ensure products remain compliant throughout the change cycle; Identify any gaps in process execution or adherence and drive appropriate corrective actions Create documentation for notification to agencies of any product change that impacts emissions or modifies/amends the certification application documents for all engine families, as required by regulation; Coordinate responses to regulatory authorities regarding any questions or concerns they may have on the change notice Plan and implement training to ensure affected departments remain aware of their role in on-highway and nonroad engine compliance Support and foster compliance and regulatory management system initiatives both locally and globally, including self-audits of products and processes, software and calibration reviews for emissions compliance, and defining any required corrective actions Coordinate regular and periodic interfaces to the global PCMS organization and drive adherence to company standards within the local teams Operate as the emissions compliance and certification lead to the cross-functional PRISM and VRB teams for planning and release of software or calibration changes Support engine production plant with specific compliance-related tasks Knowledge You Should Bring Bachelor's Degree with a focus in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field 2+ years of relevant on-highway engine emissions compliance experience Ability to read, interpret, and understand engine emissions and OBD regulations, such as those found in EPA 40 CFR 1036 or 1065, or CARB 13 CCR 1971.1, and familiarity with such regulations Demonstrable ability to clearly write and explain technical concepts and technical descriptions given graphical, verbal, or diagrammatic references Fluidity with Microsoft Office, Microsoft365, and similar productivity applications and tools Fundamental understanding of heavy-duty diesel engine operation, emissions and/or controls Excellent written and verbal communication skills An attached resume is required Exceptional Candidates Might Have Previous experience related to heavy-duty diesel engine certification processes according to US EPA and CARB regulations, including creation and processing of change to notifications to same regulatory agencies Capability of analyzing and understanding diesel engine controls strategies through software models and related calibration or diagnostic tools Extensive knowledge or product development experience related to diesel engine emissions controls Established knowledge of product compliance, engineering, and operations businesses within Daimler Truck Capability of using advanced engine calibration and programming tools, data analysis and visualization tools, scripts or related programming languages, or data management/forms languages (for example, XML) Proficiency with technical content writing or describing complex technical content in narrative form Existing ability to use internal Daimler Truck change management tools and processes with no training. Such tools may include ICM, SAFIRA, etc. Previous experience with PCMS internal standards, processes, and expectations.
