Mō mātou | About us

Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children has a commitment to putting tamariki and rangatahi at the heart of what we do. In our work, we aim to demonstrate these values:

  • We put Tamariki first
  • We believe Aroha is vital
  • We respect the Mana of people
  • We are Tika and Pono
  • We value Whakapapa
  • We recognise that Oranga is a journey

We are committed to ensuring that New Zealand is the best place in the world to be a child. We are also committed to ensuring Oranga Tamariki partners with hapū, iwi and Māori organisations to find appropriate solutions for tamariki in need.

Mō te tūnga | About the role

We are looking for an experienced Project Coordinator to support the Tamariki & Whānau Services (TWS) Integrated Change Programme.

The TWS Integrated Change Programme is a strategic portfolio of initiatives designed to help Oranga Tamariki respond to increasing demand, workforce pressures, and the growing complexity of need among tamariki and rangatahi. The programme brings together four interrelated projects that strengthen workforce capability, improve care responses for children with complex or multi-layered needs, expand partnerships with community organisations, and enhance the performance of the National Contact Centre.

Working closely with Senior Project Managers and the project teams, you will play a key role in supporting workstream delivery across a complex and fast-moving change programme. You will coordinate project activities, reporting, governance processes,

risks, issues, dependencies and financial tracking, helping to ensure delivery remains on track. You will also provide secretariat support to governance and project groups, including coordinating workstream reporting, taking minutes, capturing actions and decisions, driving follow-up and tracking outcomes.

The role sits within the Enterprise Portfolio Management Office (EPMO) team, reports to the Project Capability team’s Coordination Practice Lead, and is connected to a team of Project and Programme Coordinators.

This role is based in our Wellington office with flexible WFH options. Due to the operational requirements and dynamic nature of the role, it will be beneficial for you to have the close support of the team around you. Candidates for this role are required to already be based in Wellington or be willing to relocate to Wellington for this opportunity.

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring

Key requirements of the role include:

  • A minimum of two years’ experience in supporting a Project Manager within a programme team.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and maintain attention to detail.
  • Experience maintaining programme plans, RAID logs, action registers, dashboards and project reporting.
  • Experience supporting governance and project group meetings, coordinating papers, agendas, minutes and actions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across a range of stakeholders.
  • A proactive and self-managing approach, with the ability to identify issues early and help drive practical solutions.
  • Resilience, adaptability and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and evolving programme environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, SharePoint, Planner Board, and other Microsoft applications.
  • An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a commitment to working in culturally responsive ways, including an appreciation of tikanga Māori and Pacific perspectives.

Nōu te rourou | What's in it for you

Oranga Tamariki offers a step-based remuneration package, with progression annually for experience through tenure. Annual remuneration for this position starts between $77,886 and $86,082 dependant on experience.

We offer a vibrant and supportive team, flexible work options and a genuine commitment to wellbeing. We welcome diversity and are committed to working in an inclusive and respectful way. This is your opportunity to apply your skills and experience to the wellbeing of tamariki and rangatahi.
