The Transportation Planning and Management Division (TPM) is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets, supporting the larger goals of economic and social vitality for people living, working, and doing business in New York City. The Division’s responsibilities include planning, street design, technical analysis, signs, transit development, freight mobility and markings, ensuring the safety of motor vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and cyclists. Research, Implementation, and Safety Unit (RIS) is a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to making the streets of New York City safer for all users as part of Vision Zero, a citywide policy striving to eliminate serious injuries and fatalities from traffic crashes. RIS uses a data-driven approach to design and implement street safety redesign projects, administer safety programs, promote senior and youth safety, manage crash data and data applications, conduct large-scale safety research projects, and lead agency action plans related to safety and Vision Zero programs/policy. RIS’ Safety Projects and Programs team is seeking candidates for a Project Coordinator position. This role will be responsible for planning, developing, designing, conducting outreach, and implementing Street Improvement Projects to improve safety for pedestrians, motor vehicles, bicyclists, transit riders, and motorcyclists, with a focus on the goals of the Bus Action Plan and Vision Zero. The position will focus on incorporating proven safety treatments to improve safety for all users as part of DOT’s commitment to Vision Zero and improving the safety, reliability, and accessibility of transit corridors. Key tasks for this position include performing research and crash analysis to identify high crash locations, scoping and designing safety improvement projects for high crash locations, analyzing traffic data, preparing reports/graphics and maps, conducting field work including on-site evaluations and field meetings, coordinating project implementation, and providing technical assistance to senior staff. The selected candidates will also be required to participate in community outreach, including developing outreach plans and materials, meetings with public officials, Community Boards, and inter- and intra-agency stakeholders. The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, a capable team player, and possess excellent communication skills. Preferred Skills: Preferred candidate will be proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe Creative Suite. Experience in AutoCAD, GIS, and traffic engineering software is a plus. Knowledge of traffic calming, urban design. Preference will be given to candidate who possess a driver's license valid in the state of New York with no restrictions. This license must be maintained throughout the duration of employment in this assignment. s desired. Graduate education in city planning, urban planning, urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, transportation engineering, public administration, economic development or related fields may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 graduate semester credits from an accredited college for one year of experience. However, all candidates must have a baccalaureate degree. Special Qualification Requirements Assignment Level III To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, one additional year of professional experience as described in "2" above. Assignment Level IV To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level IV, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, two additional years of professional experience as described in "2" above.
