About The Role
The Fraunhofer-Institut für Nachrichtentechnik (Fraunhofer Institute for Communication, Information Processing and Ergonomics) is seeking two Project Managers to join our new Leipzig location. These roles are integral to establishing and operating the Research & Testing Lab "Secure Software Defined Defence" (S2D2), dedicated to defense and security with a focus on operations. As part of our team, you will be at the forefront of innovative research projects that bridge academia, industry, and security agencies. Your responsibilities will include coordinating complex projects from inception to completion, ensuring seamless collaboration among diverse stakeholders, and driving technological advancements in cybersecurity, cyber defense, and software-defined defense systems.
Qualifications
The ideal candidates should possess a successful university degree (Diplom or Master) in fields such as Computer Science, Engineering Sciences, Industrial Engineering, Business Informatics, Business Administration, Public Administration, or Social and Behavioral Sciences. Extensive experience in operational project management, especially within publicly funded research, defense, or security sectors, is essential. Candidates should have a solid understanding of project management methodologies like PRINCE2, PMI, or agile approaches, along with proficiency in project management software and AI tools. Fluency in German and English, both spoken and written, is required, complemented by a confident demeanor when engaging with security-sensitive stakeholders. Competence in MS Office, AI applications, and modern collaboration systems is also necessary. A strong interest in national and international security issues, the ability to understand complex technological contexts quickly, and high levels of motivation, initiative, and responsibility are highly valued.
Responsibilities
- Participate actively in the operational execution of research, development, and technology projects at the new Leipzig site and project offices across Saxony, shaping the project landscape at the intersection of science, industry, and security agencies.
- Coordinate national and international projects from initiation through to successful completion, ensuring smooth workflows across all phases.
- Maintain oversight of project progress, milestones, resources, and budgets, proactively managing deviations with a solution-oriented approach.
- Serve as the central communication hub, facilitating effective dialogue between scientific teams, industry partners, defense contractors, and public authorities.
- Continuously develop and optimize internal project management standards and digital tools, including leveraging artificial intelligence for efficiency gains.
- Prepare detailed status reports, engaging presentations, and documentation for funding bodies and clients, ensuring transparency and accountability.
