WHO YOU ARE As the Project Manager you will support AGU’s mission to advance Earth and space sciences for the benefit of humanity by planning and delivering projects that meet established scope, schedule, budget, quality, and performance expectations. You are responsible for coordinating the execution, implementation, and completion of assigned projects. This includes developing project plans, establishing timelines and budgets, identifying resource needs, tracking progress, managing risks and issues, and coordinating the work of cross-functional team members, vendors, and consultants. The Project Manager ensures that project activities remain aligned with organizational priorities and that changes to scope, schedule, or budget are appropriately evaluated, documented, and communicated. Working collaboratively with project sponsors, customers, and other stakeholders, the Project Manager helps define project objectives, requirements, deliverables, roles, and measures of success. The position facilitates meetings, maintains project documentation, prepares status reports, supports informed decision-making, and escalates significant risks or barriers when necessary. You will receive general direction and applies established project management practices, policies, and procedures to assigned work. Success in this role requires strong organizational, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills; sound judgment; attention to detail; and the ability to build productive working relationships, manage competing priorities, and guide teams toward successful project outcomes. WHAT YOU WILL DO Manage assigned projects from initiation through completion, applying established PMO processes, tools, and project management practices. Collaborate with project sponsors, customers, and cross-functional teams to define project scope, objectives, success criteria, requirements, and deliverables. Identify project stakeholders and develops appropriate communication and engagement approaches to keep them informed and involved throughout the project lifecycle. Work with sponsors, team members, contractors, and consultants to develop project deliverables, resource requirements, work plans, budgets, schedules, and measures of success. Develop and maintains project plans, schedules, budgets, communication plans, risk registers, decision logs, status reports, and other required project documentation. Organize and coordinates project activities, meetings, dependencies, and deliverables to support timely and effective execution. Monitor project budgets, forecasts expenses, reviews financial performance, and communicates potential budget variances to the project sponsor and appropriate leadership. Identify project resource needs and works with functional managers and project sponsors to secure the staff, contractors, consultants, and other resources required for successful delivery. Coordinate the work of cross-functional project teams, contractors, and consultants, ensuring that roles, responsibilities, expectations, and deadlines are clearly understood. Establish an appropriate schedule and format for project status reporting and provides clear, accurate, and timely updates on progress, accomplishments, risks, issues, decisions, budgets, and upcoming activities. Monitor project progress against established scope, schedule, budget, quality, and performance requirements and takes corrective action when necessary. Identify, documents, tracks, and supports the resolution of project risks, issues, dependencies, decisions, and barriers, escalating significant concerns when appropriate. Manage proposed changes to project scope, schedule, budget, resources, or deliverables through established change-control processes. Develop mitigation strategies and contingency plans to reduce the potential impact of project risks and unexpected challenges. Assign and coordinates project tasks, follows up on commitments, and promotes accountability among project team members while recognizing that functional managers retain responsibility for employee supervision and performance management. Facilitate productive project meetings and discussions, helping teams resolve conflicts, make decisions, and maintain progress toward agreed-upon outcomes. Build collaborative working relationships with project sponsors, team members, customers, vendors, consultants, and other stakeholders who are essential to project success. Support effective communication and knowledge sharing across teams, departments, and project stakeholders. Ensure that project deliverables are reviewed, accepted, documented, and transitioned to the appropriate operational owner. Conduct project closeout activities, including lessons-learned sessions and post-project evaluations, and documents recommendations to improve future project delivery. Identify and recommends practical improvements to project processes, tools, and approaches in support of PMO and organizational goals. Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification. WHAT YOU WILL BRING Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred, with 3+ years of experience working in related field or related environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience. PMP, or industry equivalent preferred. Thorough understanding of project/program management techniques and methods. Experience in association management is preferred. General understanding of project portfolio management concepts. Knowledge of MS Office; working knowledge of program/project management software (Basecamp, MS Project, Monday.com etc.) is a strong advantage. Professional interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Leadership, time management, facilitation, emotional intelligence, and organizational skills. Strong customer service skills. problem-solving ability Flexible during times of change; ability to react to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute projects in a high-pressure environment is crucial. Ability to read communication styles of team members and contractors who come from a broad spectrum of disciplines. Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources. Ability to bring projects to successful completion through political sensitivity. Confidence and motivation to operate with independence and to take part in senior leadership efforts as needed. Demonstrated knowledge of key programmatic, operational, financial, and management issues and priorities. Capable of exercising discretion on both internal and external confidential matters. The salary range for this position is Min. $82,136, Mid. $109,515, Max $136,894. We typically prefer to hire around the min-mid of our range.
