Project Manager

DESCRIPTION

Within the Data Management team, you are responsible for the end-to-end management of strategic BI and Data Analytics projects for various NMBS directorates and staff departments, including Customer Services, Technics, HR, Finance, Strategy & Legal, Internal Audit, and IT.

You lead projects around the Microsoft Fabric & Power BI platform and are responsible for the successful realization of new BI solutions, migrations, and improvement initiatives.

You act as the bridge between Business, IT, and external suppliers, ensuring that projects are delivered within scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations.

You work closely with Enterprise Architects, Solution Architects, Data Engineers, Power BI Developers, SAP teams, and business stakeholders to build a consistent and future-proof BI environment.

Responsibilities

Project Management

• You are responsible for the entire project lifecycle, from initiation and analysis to implementation, aftercare, and handover.

• You translate business objectives into a clear project scope, schedule, deliverables, and roadmap.

• You draw up project plans and monitor schedule, budget, risks, dependencies, and quality.

• You organize and lead project meetings, steering committees, and stakeholder consultations.

• You proactively report on progress, risks, budget, and decisions to management and project sponsors.

• You coordinate internal teams and external suppliers and ensure efficient collaboration between all involved parties.

• You manage changes within the project scope and ensure controlled decision-making.

• You monitor the application of the NMBS project methodology and Agile working methods.

Stakeholder & Delivery Management

• You act as the central point of contact between Business, IT, and suppliers.

• You map out business needs and translate them into clear project objectives.

• You facilitate workshops, requirements sessions, and decision-making.

• You ensure a supported roadmap and monitor priorities together with the business.

• You support change management activities and guide the organization during implementations.

BI & Data Analytics

• You coordinate projects around Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, and the broader BI landscape.

• You can also participate hands-on in all requested technologies when necessary.

• You ensure that solutions align with the Enterprise and Solution Architecture.

• You coordinate with SAP teams, Data Engineers, and BI Developers regarding technical dependencies.

• You guide migration projects from existing BI solutions to new platforms.

• You ensure that solutions meet quality, security, and governance requirements.

• You validate the delivered reports, dashboards, and BI solutions together with business stakeholders.

Governance & Continuous Improvement

• You support, coordinate, and drive the further development of the BI Center of Excellence.

• You encourage the application of Best Practices, Guidelines, and Governance within the BI community.

• You identify opportunities for process improvement and enhanced data-driven decision-making.

• You monitor the quality of project documentation, roadmaps, risk analyses, and migration plans.

• You support knowledge sharing between project teams and the broader BI community.

Profile

• At least 10 years of experience as a Project Manager, Program Manager, Delivery Manager, or similar role within BI, Data Analytics, or Enterprise IT.

• Experience leading complex multidisciplinary IT projects.

• Experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and project management methodologies.

• Strong experience with stakeholder management at various management levels.

• Experience with project planning, budget management, risk analysis, and vendor management.

• Experience with migration and transformation projects. • Experience within large enterprise organizations is a strong asset.

• Hands-on mentality and know-how in PowerBI, Fabric, Azure Data Platform, AI Tools, and Data Governance Tools.

Technical Knowledge

• Strong and in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Power BI and Microsoft Fabric.

• Strong knowledge of Azure Data Platform (Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Databricks, Analysis Services, DataVerse...).

• Knowledge of and demonstrable experience with RayFin, CoPilot, Claude, and other AI tools.

• Knowledge of SAP BW/BW4HANA and SAP Datasphere is a significant asset.

• Insight into BI architectures, data warehousing, and reporting solutions.

• Understanding of data governance, security, and solution architecture.

• Degree in Economics or Computer Science

• At least 10 years of experience in a similar role (BI Project Manager with extensive hands-on experience).

• At least 5+ years of experience in project delivery of Data & Analytics-related projects.

• Experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and tools such as JIRA and Confluence.

• Relevant, demonstrable in-depth (hands-on) experience and expertise in and with BI and reporting tools (including designing, implementing, and validating end-to-end BI & Data Platform architectures on): Microsoft Power BI - Microsoft Fabric - Microsoft AAS - Microsoft Fabric - Azure Cloud and Data Solutions and Services

• Experience with RayFin and CoPilot within a Microsoft Fabric context

• Relevant, demonstrable in-depth experience and expertise in and with Azure Cloud and Data Solutions and Services

• Language skills: fluent communication in Dutch, French, and English (spoken and written). Native Dutch or French or at least C level. Other language at least B2 and English at C level.

• Willing to work on-site in Brussels for at least 2 days per week.

• Pronounced solution-delivery mindset: demonstrable end-to-end delivery ownership and focus, stakeholder management, decision-making, pragmatism.

• Demonstrable experience in developing and delivering training (PowerBI, Fabric)

• Demonstrable experience in documenting architecture, best practices, guidelines, guardrails, planning, migration approach, roadmaps, etc.
