Job Title: Project Manager – Renewable Energy Interconnection Job Description This role focuses on managing complex renewable energy and distributed energy resource interconnection projects for a major utility in Washington State. The Project Manager supports the growth of clean energy resources across the electric system, acting as the primary point of coordination for customers seeking to connect renewable generation and distributed energy resources to the grid. The position is part of a Clean Energy organization, supports Distributed Solar and Storage Request for Proposal initiatives, and develops interconnection agreements for Tier 3 (500 kilowatt) renewable energy projects. Responsibilities Manage complex renewable energy interconnection projects from initial application through execution of interconnection agreements. Serve as the primary point of coordination for customers seeking to connect renewable generation and distributed energy resources to the utility grid. Support Distributed Solar and Storage Request for Proposal (DSS RFP) initiatives by coordinating project requirements and timelines. Oversee Tier 3 (500 kilowatt) renewable energy interconnection projects, ensuring compliance with utility standards and regulatory requirements. Coordinate and evaluate interconnections for battery energy storage systems, community solar installations, commercial solar facilities, microgrids, and other non-fossil fuel generation resources. Partner with customers, developers, consultants, and multiple internal engineering disciplines to evaluate proposed interconnections. Facilitate successful project completion by managing schedules, expectations, and communication among internal and external stakeholders. Interpret and apply utility interconnection requirements, tariffs, standards, and technical criteria throughout the project lifecycle. Work across engineering, operations, planning, and external customer groups to move projects efficiently through utility review processes. Identify technical risks early in the project and develop practical solutions to keep projects on track. Support the growth of clean energy resources by ensuring projects align with broader clean energy and grid modernization initiatives. Communicate clearly and confidently with technical teams, translating complex technical concepts into actionable project plans. Essential Skills Minimum of 3 years of utilities experience, with a strong preference for utility interconnection experience. Demonstrated project management experience in a utility or energy environment. Experience interpreting and applying utility interconnection requirements, tariffs, standards, and technical criteria. Working knowledge of distribution systems and renewable energy technologies. Understanding of distribution system operations, including feeder capacity, protection coordination, voltage regulation, and power quality considerations. Familiarity with substation equipment and design considerations, such as transformers, breakers, relays, and SCADA integration. Knowledge of telecommunications or fiber infrastructure that supports utility operations, protection schemes, and grid modernization initiatives. Experience collaborating with engineering, operations, planning, and external customer groups to move projects through utility review processes. Ability to identify technical risks early and develop practical, effective solutions. Strong communication skills with the ability to engage comfortably with technical teams and stakeholders. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with SAP is a significant plus. Experience with PowerClerk is a significant plus. Experience in distribution, protection, system planning, and/or substation work is highly desirable. Experience working on renewable energy projects such as solar, storage, and microgrids. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational and coordination skills to support complex, multi-stakeholder projects. Work Environment This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, with approximately 50% on-site and 50% remote work. The role can be based at various local utility sites across Washington State, including locations such as Bellingham, Bothell, Bellevue, Seattle, Kent, and Puyallup, with potential for increased remote flexibility depending on performance. The Project Manager collaborates with 3–10 internal teams, including planning, metering, engineering, program management, protection, substation, real estate, and other technical groups. The environment is highly collaborative and technically focused, centered on large-scale renewable energy and clean energy initiatives within a modern utility setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Bellevue, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $50.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
