Project Manager, Commercial Operations
GridVest · Hybrid (SF/Bay Area, CA preferred)
About GridVest
GridVest is a battery energy storage system (BESS) procurement and solutions provider. We help commercial, industrial, and utility-scale customers deploy energy storage in a market that gets more complex every quarter — tariffs, FEOC compliance, supply chain risk, interconnection. Our work directly accelerates the energy transition.
We're a team of 10. We move fast, we care about the work, want to make positive impact and we protect our time outside of it.
The role
We're hiring a Project Manager, Commercial Operations to run project delivery across our commercial operations — and to partner directly with our Managing Partner and Senior Operations Manager on the execution behind it. You'll also be working very closely with our Sales Director and Senior Engineer among others.
You'll own the plan, the tracker, and the follow-up on multiple concurrent workstreams: supplier deliverables, logistics milestones, contract and invoice cycles, project documentation. When something is late, ambiguous, or undocumented, you're the person who catches it and closes it.
You'll report to our Managing Partner (solid line) and work closely with our Senior Manager of Commercial Operations (dotted line, weekly cadence). Roughly 65% of your time is project and operations management, 25% is executive partnership with the Managing Partner, and 10% is invoicing and cross-team collaboration. Weights flex by week.
This is a role for someone who gets satisfaction from making things run — clean data, tight follow-through, and automations that keep work from slipping through the cracks. Plus enjoys interfacing with customers, suppliers and partners.
Fluency with AI tools is required. Experience with HubSpot and Notion (our CRM and PM stack) is a strong plus.
What you'll do
- Own delivery on multiple concurrent projects — build the plan, set milestones, sequence the work, and drive it to done
- Run point with suppliers, logistics partners, and internal stakeholders on deliverables, documentation, and open items, so our SMCO doesn't have to lead every exchange
- Maintain our commercial operations trackers (projects, contracts, logistics, invoicing) as decision-grade, audit-ready systems of record
- Build and maintain automations across Notion, Slack, Gmail, and Google Workspace — deadline reminders, missing-data flags, status notifications
- Manage the invoicing cycle end to end: issue, track, follow up, reconcile
- Monitor AI meeting summaries and key Slack channels to surface action items before they're dropped
- Partner with the Managing Partner on execution — running his priorities, calendar, and follow-ups so his time goes to the highest-leverage work
- Coordinate scheduling across operations, sales, and engineering
- Bring your own read to ops brainstorms with the SMCO
What we're looking for
- 4–6+ years as a Project Manager, Operations Manager, Project Coordinator, Chief of Staff, Business Partner, or similar
- Track record running multiple concurrent projects with real external dependencies — you can walk us through one you delivered, including where it nearly went sideways
- Demonstrated ownership of structured-data systems — Notion databases, Airtable, Google Sheets, or comparable. Be ready to walk us through something you built
- Hands-on automation experience: Notion, Slack workflows, Zapier, Make, Google Apps Script, or similar low-code tools
- Confident coordinating externally — you can chase a status update and build the relationship at the same time
- High verbal bandwidth: you can absorb ten items in a 30-minute call and run with them without a written brief
- Strong written communication, including drafting on someone else's behalf
- Low ego, execution-first, and willing to say what you think when asked
- Someone who can be in the office in Sausalito, CA 1-2 days per week.
- Renewable energy or battery storage experience is a big plus
Bonus points
- Work in a battery energy related company
- Renewables, energy, infrastructure, or hardware industry exposure
- Experience working in finance and with outsourced finance functions (bookkeepers, fractional CFOs)
Compensation & benefits
- Base salary: $80,000–$90,000
- Performance bonus: $10,000–$20,000 annually, with $10,000 guaranteed
- Health insurance and 401(k) with 6% match
- Fully remote, flexible hours within Pacific/Mountain working windows
Target total compensation: $90,000–$110,000+
