About The Role

Job Title: Quantity Surveyor

Location: Inverness

Company: Balfour Beatty - Regional Scotland

Project: Nairn Academy

Join Balfour Beatty’s North Scotland Building team as a Quantity Surveyor, supporting the successful delivery of one of our key education projects in the Highlands — Nairn Academy.

The Project: Nairn Academy

We are currently on site at Nairn Academy, a major school redevelopment forming part of our strategic growth in the North. This project sits alongside significant ongoing and upcoming work in the region, including HMP Highland and preconstruction activity for Forres (£80m), making this an exciting time to join our experienced commercial team.

As the QS, you'll play a key role in ensuring commercial excellence across this modern education facility, helping us deliver a high‑quality learning environment for the community.

The Role

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will manage all project costs and income within your area of responsibility, support procurement, and contribute to commercial strategy and reporting across the project. You will work closely with the wider project team and external supply chain partners to ensure best value and robust commercial governance.

You may also support and mentor less experienced commercial team members.

What you'll be doing

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage costs, income, and financial reporting for your work packages.
  • Measure, value and interpret works information, drawings and specifications.
  • Prepare Bills of Quantities, cost reconciliations, and estimates from first principles.
  • Use digital systems and ERP platforms to manage data and reporting.
  • Support procurement activities — subcontract enquiries, adjudication and award.
  • Understand and manage customer contracts, stakeholder engagement and variations.
  • Contribute to planning commercial activities aligned to project programme requirements.

Who we're looking for

  • BSc/MSc in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent).
  • CSCS (Academically/Professionally Qualified).
  • MRICS/MCInstCES/MCIOB or working toward qualification.
  • Strong measurement, commercial administration and procurement capability.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the wider project team.

Why Join Us in Inverness?

  • Be part of a flagship school project, delivering meaningful outcomes for the community.
  • Opportunity to grow within a high‑performing North Scotland commercial team
  • A varied regional pipeline offering long‑term career stability across the Highlands.
