School Summary Kansas Connections Academy (KCA) is a tuition-free, K-12 online public school serving students throughout Kansas. KCA opened in August 2001 as Elkhart Cyber School, and in 2010 the school became Kansas Connections Academy. KCA is operated in partnership between the Elkhart Unified School District 218 and a contract with Connections Academy of Kansas, LLC, to provide the educational program and other services. Connections Academy, a division of Connections Education, is accredited by AdvancED, and KCA is accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement. Position Summary and Responsibilities The KCA Reading Teacher/Interventionist will support students who are at risk of not meeting competency levels on benchmark or state assessments. The Reading Interventionist will provide targeted, research-based literacy interventions for students identified as needing support in phonics, fluency, and/or comprehension. Working within a virtual learning environment, the interventionist will collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to close reading gaps, track progress, and ensure all students have the tools to grow as readers. The Reading Interventionist will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks: Providing small-group and one-on-one virtual reading intervention sessions focused on phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension; Administer and utilize diagnostic assessments, such Renaissance Star, Oral Reading Fluency, Core Phonics Screeners, etc. to identify student needs; Develop and implement individualized learning goals and monitor progress regularly; Collect and analyze student data to measure progress toward goals. Maintain accurate records of interventions, student performance, and communication logs; Utilize online tools (IXL, digital reading platforms, etc.) to supplement instruction and reinforce skills; Report outcomes to administrators and contribute to schoolwide literacy improvement efforts; Partner with classroom teachers, special education staff, and administrators to align intervention strategies with core instruction; Participate in grade level team meeting discussions to review student performance and determine next steps; Communicate with families to share progress, provide resources for at-home reading practice, and build strong partnerships; Other duties as assigned; Requirements Highly qualified and certified to teach in Kansas K-8 certification preferred Experience with early literacy and intervention preferred Strong technology skills (especially with Microsoft Office products and Google Suite) Excellent communication skills, both oral and written Highly organized and punctual Student and family focused approach High degree of flexibility Demonstrated ability to work well in fast paced environment Team player track record Strong interpersonal skills which include the ability to work effectively with students, parents, staff, and community members from diverse backgrounds Ability to work remotely, while traveling occasionally for in-person meetings and testing Must be able to use a personal electronic device and an email address for two-step authentication
