Primary Location Remote Department DPIC Shift Rotating (United States of America) Schedule Full time Weekly Hours 36 FTE 0.9 Employee Status Regular Position Summary The Registered Nurse II (RN II) serves as a Poison Control Center Specialist, providing clinical assessment, triage, consultation, and education related to toxic exposures, poisonings, medications, biologics, chemicals, hazardous materials, environmental toxins, and other potentially harmful substances. This role supports a 24/7 medical toxicology, public health, and drug information service for healthcare providers, patients, and the community. The RN II assesses the severity of poison exposures, provides evidence-based treatment recommendations, documents all encounters according to established protocols, and supports poison prevention and public health initiatives. This position combines clinical expertise, critical thinking, customer service, and education to ensure safe and effective patient care. Essential Responsibilities Receive and respond to telephone inquiries involving actual or suspected poisonings, toxic exposures, medication questions, and related concerns. Obtain comprehensive case histories using effective interviewing and assessment techniques. Evaluate the nature and severity of toxic exposures utilizing evidence-based resources, calculations, clinical guidelines, and toxicology references. Develop and communicate appropriate treatment recommendations and courses of action to patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and emergency personnel. Provide drug information including medication identification, indications, contraindications, dosage, administration, and safety information. Accurately document all calls, consultations, assessments, recommendations, and follow-up activities in designated electronic systems. Conduct follow-up assessments to evaluate patient outcomes and ensure appropriate care recommendations have been implemented. Support poison prevention initiatives and public health education efforts. Participate in clinical toxicology reviews, continuing education, and professional development activities. Assist with orientation, training, and education of students, interns, or other staff as assigned. Maintain compliance with departmental protocols, regulatory standards, and customer service expectations. Perform other duties as assigned. [DPIC - Poi...take Notes | Word] Preferred Qualifications Emergency Department (ED) experience. Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience. Interest in toxicology, poison prevention, and public health. Work Environment Primarily remote position with regular onsite expectations. Typically requires onsite presence approximately one day per week and attendance at monthly department meetings. Additional onsite attendance may be required during orientation and training periods. Schedule Requirements Rotating shifts supporting a 24/7 operation. Combination of 8-, 10-, and 12-hour shifts. Includes first shift, second shift, and occasional overnight coverage based on operational needs. Requirement to work 60 weekend hours within a six-week scheduling period. Participation in a holiday rotation, including 50% of major holidays. Flexible scheduling process designed to accommodate staff preferences whenever possible. JOB QUALIFICATIONS Associate/Diploma prepared RNs from ACEN, CCNE or NLN CNEA accredited institution requires 2+ years of experience. If hired without a BSN or MSN, must enroll in a BSN or MSN program within 1 year of hire date/RN job date and complete program within 5 years of hire/RN job date. Preferred: BSN from ACEN, CCNE or NLN CNEA accredited institution or MSN are preferred. Active Ohio RN License. May be required to obtain other state licensure. 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline. Foreign graduates must have license validated through TruMeritTM per Ohio Board of Nursing code for Foreign Graduates.
