Role Title: Remote Accounting Manager / Senior Accountant- Pack Leader Location: Fully Remote — Kenya-based professional supporting a U.S.-based accounting team Employment Type: Full-Time, 40 hours per week Schedule & Availability: Strong and consistent overlap with U.S. business hours, with reasonable flexibility based on client and team needs Reports To: Quality Control Lead (QCL) Team Alignment: Recurring Services / Client Accounting Client-Facing: Yes — expected to become increasingly client-facing over time This is a leadership position, not simply a senior bookkeeping role. The Pack Leader will: ● Lead and supervise Staff Accountants / pack members. ● Own the quality and timeliness of assigned client financials. ● Ensure work moves from assignment through completion without constant escalation. ● Make sound accounting and operational judgment calls. ● Identify problems, determine solutions, and ensure those solutions are implemented. ● Support Relationship Managers with client-ready financial statements and insights. ● Help improve accounting workflows, systems, and internal processes. ● Develop into an increasingly client-facing accounting leader as transactional accounting becomes more automated. The ideal candidate combines strong accounting expertise, leadership maturity, ownership, curiosity, adaptability, problem-solving ability, and executive presence. Key Responsibilities 1. Pack Leadership & Supervision ● Directly supervise Staff Accountants / pack members through daily leadership, coaching, and oversight. ● Assign, prioritize, and monitor work across the pack. ● Ensure team members understand responsibilities, deadlines, and expected quality standards. ● Conduct regular check-ins to review workload, performance, development, and obstacles. ● Mentor team members in accounting fundamentals, systems, client service, and LCDG standards. ● Provide direct and constructive performance feedback. ● Make appropriate judgment calls on behalf of the pack. ● Take responsibility for team outcomes rather than automatically routing decisions upward. ● Hold team members accountable for completing work accurately and on schedule. ● Develop the technical and professional capabilities of junior team members. ● Demonstrate calm, confident leadership during demanding periods. 2. Ownership, Problem-Solving & Decision-Making ● Take ownership when an accounting, operational, or client-related problem is identified. ● Work through problems independently before escalating. ● Determine what information is needed to reach a solution. ● Research answers when the solution is not immediately obvious. ● Make sound professional judgment calls when appropriate. ● Ensure solutions are actually implemented rather than stopping at problem identification. ● Take responsibility for outcomes. ● Escalate only when necessary and provide: ○ A clear explanation of the issue. ○ What has already been attempted. ○ The remaining obstacle. ○ A recommended path forward. ● Operate confidently in situations where there may be more than one reasonable accounting or operational approach. 3. Workflow Management & Delivery ● Organize daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual responsibilities across the pack. ● Maintain visibility into active work and outstanding deliverables. ● Rebalance workloads when necessary. ● Ensure recurring client responsibilities are completed accurately and on schedule. ● Track open questions and outstanding items through closure. ● Prevent work from stalling while waiting for responses. ● Provide proactive status updates to internal stakeholders. ● Ensure month-end and other deadlines are met consistently. ● Create structure and accountability across multiple simultaneous client workflows. 4. Accounting Execution & Financial Oversight ● Oversee day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting for U.S.-based restaurant and multi-unit clients. ● Record and categorize transactions accurately. ● Perform and review bank and credit card reconciliations. ● Manage and review accounts payable and accounts receivable workflows. ● Maintain full ownership of assigned client Profit & Loss Statements and Balance Sheets ● Prepare, review, and analyze: ○ Profit & Loss Statements. ○ Balance Sheets. ○ Cash Flow Statements. ○ Supporting schedules and reconciliations. ● Identify unusual balances, discrepancies, missing information, or incorrect classifications. ● Resolve accounting issues independently when possible. ● Ensure client records remain complete, accurate, and audit-ready. ● Maintain strong accounting documentation within QuickBooks Online and Restaurant365. 5. Month-End Close, Quality Control & Audit Support ● Lead and oversee month-end close processes. ● Ensure all required reconciliations are completed. ● Review financial statements before submission to Quality Control. ● Resolve open accounting questions within the close cycle whenever reasonably possible. ● Support quarterly hard closes. ● Prepare work for QCL reviews and audits. ● Ensure supporting schedules and documentation are complete. ● Maintain strong internal controls and documentation standards. ● Ensure financial information is useful, understandable, and appropriate for the client environment. 6. Flexible Accounting Judgment ● Apply sound accounting principles without becoming unnecessarily rigid in situations that require professional judgment. ● Understand that restaurant bookkeeping may require practical business judgment alongside technical accounting knowledge. ● Recognize that the most useful presentation or process for a client may evolve as circumstances change. ● Understand the business reason behind financial reporting decisions, not merely the technical rule. ● Be comfortable operating in gray areas where several reasonable options may exist. ● Adapt processes when new information, technology, or client needs justify a better approach. ● Avoid relying on “this is how it has always been done” as the default answer. ● Balance accuracy, consistency, usefulness, and client needs. 7. Client-Facing Accounting Leadership ● Develop into a regular client-facing accounting leader. ● Communicate clearly and confidently with restaurant owners, operators, and financial stakeholders. ● Explain financial information in understandable business language. ● Maintain control of accounting conversations and client calls. ● Remain composed when clients challenge, question, or misunderstand financial information. ● Listen carefully to what a client is asking. ● Identify the underlying issue behind the surface-level question. ● Guide clients toward the appropriate accounting or business solution. ● Adapt communication style to different client personalities. ● Build trust and strong working relationships. ● Work effectively with both casual entrepreneurial clients and more formal corporate stakeholders. ● Demonstrate executive presence and confidence in accounting knowledge. ● Partner with Relationship Managers to prepare financial statements and insights for client review meetings. 8. Client & Cross-Team Collaboration ● Work closely with U.S.-based accountants, Relationship Managers, Quality Control Leads, and internal support teams. ● Communicate professionally regarding financial questions, deadlines, and outstanding issues. ● Provide accounting analysis and context for client discussions. ● Coordinate effectively across teams to ensure deliverables are completed. ● Close communication loops rather than assuming another team member will follow up. ● Surface risks early enough for the team to address them. ● Support a collaborative environment while maintaining clear accountability. 9. Process Improvement & SOP Development ● Document and maintain bookkeeping and accounting workflows. ● Update SOPs as processes evolve. ● Identify inefficient or outdated practices. ● Recommend practical process improvements. ● Help implement approved workflow changes. ● Look for ways to improve: ○ Accuracy. ○ Close speed. ○ Team communication. ○ Client reporting. ○ Workflow visibility. ○ Quality control. ● Encourage team members to understand why a process exists rather than simply following instructions. 10. T echnology, AI & Automation ● Demonstrate curiosity toward accounting technology and process automation. ● Use technology to improve accounting efficiency and accuracy. ● Maintain advanced hands-on QuickBooks Online proficiency. ● Learn and use Restaurant365 where required. ● Explore opportunities for AI to improve recurring accounting and administrative processes. ● Use approved AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or comparable platforms where appropriate. ● Ask proactively: “How can AI help me do this better?” ● Review and validate AI-generated work before it enters client files or financial reporting. ● Apply technical accounting judgment rather than relying blindly on automated outputs. ● Remain curious as AI and accounting technology continue to evolve. ● Support client transitions from QuickBooks Online to Restaurant365 when needed.
