Job Description: This role focuses on designing and implementing AI solutions that evaluate the validity and quality of additive manufacturing prints. You collaborate closely with mechanical engineering and WAAM (Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing) teams to build robust, data-driven systems that improve print reliability and performance. Responsibilities: Collaborate with mechanical and WAAM engineering teams to understand printing processes, quality requirements, and validation criteria. Design, develop, and implement AI models to test and assess the validity and quality of WAAM prints. Build and maintain Python-based applications and services that support AI workflows and data processing. Develop full stack solutions that integrate AI models into user-facing tools or internal systems used by engineering teams. Analyze print data and model outputs to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improving print quality. Iterate on AI algorithms and system architecture based on performance metrics and feedback from engineering stakeholders. Ensure AI solutions are scalable, maintainable, and well-documented for ongoing use and future enhancements. Collaborate with cross-functional team members to integrate AI capabilities into broader engineering and production workflows. Essential Skills: US Citizenship. Strong proficiency in Python for application development and data processing. Hands-on experience with AI development, including building, training, and deploying models. Full stack development experience, including working on both front-end and back-end components. Ability to collaborate effectively with mechanical and WAAM engineering teams and translate technical requirements into AI solutions. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work on complex, data-driven engineering challenges. Additional Skills & Qualifications: Experience and/or exposure to Ollama gets you bumped up the list. Experience with advanced AI techniques and frameworks is a plus. Familiarity with WAAM or additive manufacturing processes is beneficial. Interest in working within a startup environment and contributing to innovative engineering solutions. Eagerness to learn about WAAM engineering and apply AI to real-world manufacturing problems. Work Environment: This role follows a Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The position offers flexibility in work arrangement and can be fully on-site, hybrid, or 100% remote based on individual preference. You work closely with engineering teams in a collaborative environment focused on WAAM technology and AI-driven innovation, with access to modern tools and systems that support both software development and advanced manufacturing workflows. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Virginia Beach, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $95.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
