We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for biologists and life sciences researchers with advanced expertise in biological research, experimental design, data interpretation, and applied biotechnology. This role supports an AI research initiative focused on developing rigorous academic benchmarks in biology. Selected experts will author or verify challenging multiple-choice assessment content, evaluate scientific accuracy and reasoning quality, develop well-supported solution rationales, and help establish high-quality reference standards for advanced AI systems. Key Responsibilities Biology Question Authoring Create original multiple-choice questions that test deep biological understanding rather than surface-level recall Develop challenging problems within relevant areas of scientific expertise Ensure questions are self-contained, precise, unambiguous, and independently solvable Design questions appropriate for undergraduate, advanced undergraduate, and postgraduate difficulty levels Produce one correct answer alongside nine plausible and carefully constructed distractors Question Verification & Scientific Review Review pre-written biology questions for scientific accuracy, clarity, rigour, and completeness Identify conceptual errors, ambiguity, unsupported assumptions, or solvability issues Edit questions and answer choices where required Verify that designated correct answers are supported by established biological evidence Document substantive changes and explain the scientific reasoning behind them Experimental Design & Data Interpretation Develop problems involving experimental design, controls, measurement, and biological inference Evaluate experimental results and determine whether conclusions are supported by the available evidence Create questions requiring interpretation of biological datasets, figures, or research scenarios Identify confounding factors, methodological weaknesses, and alternative explanations Apply graduate-level scientific reasoning to complex biological problems Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Develop assessment content involving industrial biotechnology and pharmaceutical manufacturing Apply expertise in biological production systems, bioprocessing, quality considerations, and manufacturing workflows Create problems involving synthetic biology and engineered biological systems Evaluate biological process design and optimisation scenarios Ensure applied biotechnology content reflects realistic scientific and industrial practice Medical Research & Drug Discovery Develop questions involving biomedical research and therapeutic discovery Apply biological reasoning to target identification, mechanism-of-action studies, experimental validation, and preclinical research Evaluate evidence supporting biological hypotheses and drug-development decisions Create tasks requiring integration of molecular, cellular, biochemical, or physiological evidence Assess methodological and interpretive issues in medical research workflows Agricultural, Environmental & Food Biology Develop rigorous content involving agricultural and environmental biology Create questions addressing biological systems relevant to food production and sustainability Apply ecological, molecular, microbiological, or physiological reasoning where appropriate Evaluate biological interactions within environmental and agricultural systems Develop interdisciplinary problems connecting biological science with applied real-world contexts Academic Research & Benchmark Quality Provide 1–5 academic references per question where required Use reputable sources such as peer-reviewed journals, academic publications, and university repositories Develop clear, structured solution explanations supporting the correct answer Rate question difficulty according to defined Medium, Hard, and Expert standards Help maintain consistent scientific quality across benchmark content Contribute to gold-standard evaluation materials used to assess advanced AI capabilities Ideal Profile PhD or current doctoral candidacy in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, Biotechnology, or a closely related life sciences discipline Master's degree may be considered for candidates with exceptional expertise in a relevant biological subdomain Strong command of graduate-level biology, experimental design, and scientific data interpretation Expertise in one or more areas including Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, Industrial Biology, Synthetic Biology, Medical Research, Drug Discovery, Agricultural Biology, Environmental Biology, or Food Biology Strong understanding of biological research methodology and evidence evaluation Ability to construct rigorous, discriminating academic assessment content Excellent written English and ability to communicate complex scientific concepts clearly and precisely Academic research publications are highly valued Laboratory, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or applied life sciences experience is advantageous University-level teaching, examination development, or scientific assessment experience is highly valued Strong attention to scientific accuracy, experimental validity, and methodological rigour Engagement Details Part-time independent contractor engagement Fully remote and asynchronous Expected availability of at least 10 hours per week Flexible scheduling based on project requirements Compensation: $50–$65/hour Contributors may be assigned either question-authoring or question-verification workstreams Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded based on project needs and performance Work must be completed without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, or other third party H1-B and STEM OPT support is unavailable for this engagement About the Platform This opportunity is available through 24-MAG LLC.
