Remote Dispatch Operator

Veitch Ops provides remote dispatch and operational cover to taxi, private-hire, courier and logistics businesses. We support clients during busy periods, staff absence, evenings, weekends, overnight shifts and other operational gaps.

We are selecting four or five dependable freelance operators who can complete onboarding immediately and accept assignments as our client base grows.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a flexible, remote freelance opportunity rather than a position with guaranteed hours. Assignments are offered according to client demand. You can tell us when you are available and choose whether to accept each assignment.

Duties vary between clients and may include:

- Answering booking or job-intake calls

- Entering bookings accurately

- Allocating and coordinating drivers

- Monitoring active work

- Responding to customer and passenger enquiries

- Providing journey or delivery updates

- Supporting busy dispatch periods

- Covering evenings, weekends, overnight shifts or staff absence

- Following client-specific escalation procedures

The duties, system access, shift time and rate will be confirmed before each assignment is accepted.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

You should have:

- Previous experience in a taxi, private-hire, courier, logistics or similar call or control room

- Experience communicating directly with customers and drivers

- Experience using at least one recognised booking, dispatch or fleet-management system

- Fluent, professional spoken and written English

- Confidence communicating with UK customers, drivers and operating teams

- Strong reliability and timekeeping

- Calm judgement when an operation becomes busy

- The ability to adapt between different clients, systems and procedures

- Good attention to detail

- A professional and confidential approach to client information

Experience with systems such as Autocab, iCabbi, Cordic or other established dispatch platforms is useful, but experience with any major system will be considered.

REMOTE-WORKING REQUIREMENTS

You must provide:

- A reliable computer

- A professional-quality headset

- Stable, dependable internet access

- A private and secure working environment

- A suitable backup plan for connectivity or equipment problems

- Availability expressed clearly in UK time

Applicants may be based anywhere, provided they can work securely, communicate to the required professional standard and legally provide freelance services from their country.

RATES

- Standard hours: GBP 17.50 per hour

- Evenings, 6pm-10pm UK time: GBP 19.00 per hour

- Overnight, 10pm-6am UK time: GBP 20.00 per hour

- Weekends: GBP 19.50 per hour

- UK bank holidays: GBP 22.50 per hour

Only the highest applicable rate applies. Premium rates are not combined. Freelancers submit approved hours weekly and are paid weekly in GBP.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

- This is a self-employed freelance opportunity.

- Work is offered according to client demand and is not guaranteed.

- You are free to accept or decline individual assignments.

- Successful applicants may complete onboarding immediately, but available work will grow alongside the Veitch Ops client base.

- Freelancers are responsible for their own tax, insurance and local legal obligations.

- You may provide services to other businesses.

- You must follow each assignment brief, security requirements and escalation procedures.

- You will not have authority to make unapproved refunds, pricing decisions, contractual promises or policy changes.

- Access is limited to the systems and information required for each assignment.

- Client-specific onboarding, preparation and authorised operational work is paid.

SELECTION PROCESS

Suitable applicants will attend an informal telephone or video interview and complete a short practical dispatch assessment lasting approximately 30-45 minutes. The initial interview and selection assessment are unpaid. The assessment evaluates communication, judgement and dispatch ability; it does not involve genuine customer work or revenue-generating activity.

Applicants must also provide proof of identity and suitable references, complete any relevant background, confidentiality and security checks, and sign the required freelance and confidentiality agreements.
