Working at Yale means contributing to a better tomorrow. Whether you are a current resident of our New Haven-based community, eligible for opportunities through the New Haven Hiring Initiative, or a newcomer, interested in exploring all that Yale has to offer, your talents and contributions are welcome. Discover your opportunities at Yale! Overview The Research Associate will support an academic research project studying the practical applicability of the LM-Tree pricing methodology to real-world content markets . The paper develops a method for pricing access to unstructured content (e.g., articles) for AI/agentic consumption; this role investigates where and how that method applies in practice — characterizing candidate application markets, their structure, and the conditions under which the methodology would be relevant — and translates those findings into written material for the working paper, presentations, and faculty discussion. The work is qualitative and analytical (market and institutional research, synthesis, and writing); it does not involve software development or model implementation. Key Responsibilities Research and map candidate real-world markets for the pricing methodology (e.g., content publishing, media, and adjacent settings), characterizing each from public information. Analyze market structure and unit economics of these settings using public sources — pricing models, transaction/licensing mechanics, buyer and supplier landscape, and adoption frictions. Conduct structured literature and industry reviews on content pricing, licensing, and related market-design topics. Synthesize findings into clear written summaries, comparison tables, and analytical exhibits for the paper's applied/empirical discussion. Organize and document sources and findings so the applied analysis is reproducible and well-referenced. Prepare research summaries and presentation materials for working papers and faculty discussions. Support additional research activities related to pricing strategy and quantitative marketing as needed. Required Skills and Abilities Strong structured research, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to translate open-ended research questions into organized frameworks, comparisons, and written findings. Working knowledge of pricing strategy, market dynamics, business-model analysis, or quantitative marketing. Ability to gather, organize, and synthesize information from public and industry sources into clear conclusions. Strong written and verbal communication; able to produce clean, well-referenced research summaries and exhibits. Comfort with organizing information and light quantitative work in spreadsheets (e.g., Excel). Strong attention to detail and disciplined, reproducible documentation. Ability to work independently and collaborate with the supervising faculty member. Preferred Skills and Abilities Management-consulting or applied-research experience involving pricing, market analysis, customer strategy, or business-model evaluation. Experience conducting market landscape / industry research and competitive or comparative analysis. Familiarity with content, media, publishing, or AI/technology markets. Proficiency in communicating quantitative and qualitative findings through tables, charts, and presentations. Experience preparing research or case material, memos, or exhibits for academic or professional audiences. Familiarity with quantitative marketing, market design, platform economics, or related fields. Experience working with multidisciplinary teams across business, economics, and analytics. Principal Responsibilities 1. Duties will be dependent of the nature of the internship. The assignment may occur in any one of the following specialty areas: Administration, Athletics, Business Operations, Clinical, Communications, Editing & Teaching, Computing and Information Systems, Development, Dining, Facilities, Financial, Human Resources, Library, Museums, Research Support, Service, Safety & Security, Student Services. 2. Receives training on procedures through training sessions and shadowing appointments. 3. Develops and delivers programs. 4. Observes sessions with experienced advisers. 5. Writes and edits materials. 6. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience Education and Experience must meet the particular requirements of the assignment.
