The National Energy System Operator (NESO) has been given an exciting new role of Regional Energy Strategic Planner (RESP) for GB. RESP will support coordinated development of the distribution energy system and enable long-term investment to be made with confidence and ahead of need. The RESP will be developed to be "whole system", shaped by a strong place-based understanding and coordinating development across multiple energy vectors. RESP will ensure coherence between regional and national net-zero ambitions/plans. We have established 11 national and regional teams to develop each RESP. It’s a great opportunity to join us as we set out to help decarbonise the UK in a local community-based way. To achieve this our RESP East team (covering the geographical counties of Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex) will work alongside our ten other nations and regions teams, as well as our hub team, in forming the hub and spokes needed for energy planning to benefit from and reflect local inputs. This will require us to work with organisations at a local level (‘local actors’) including local government and gas and electricity networks, to improve understanding of the infrastructure needed in different parts of the country and attract investment for projects. Stakeholder engagement will be key to unlocking the benefits of integrated regional energy planning. The purpose of RESP Coordinator is to support and enable engagement with local actors and other regional and central NESO teams is coordinated, excellent organisational skills will be key to the role. Our focus in the immediate term is to build trust with our stakeholders, establish our process and methodology, and grow our capability in whole energy systems to best support local actors and industry stakeholders in developing credible plans to support net zero. The role holder will oversee coordination of our office in Norwich and the role will also require some travel around the East region, and occasionally beyond. Demonstrating prior lived and/or working experience in the East will be essential for this role. This role is home based with an expectation of minimum 1 day per week in the East office in Norwich. Key Accountabilities As the Strategic Energy Planning Coordinator for the East, you will be responsible for coordinating the development and delivery of the team’s engagement activity and overseeing coordination of the East region office. You will be supported both by your regional team, the central stakeholder engagement team and wider NESO. You will work closely with them to: Proactively coordinate, enable and report on engagement with stakeholders within the region and NESO colleagues including in central hub and other regional teams; as well as with Strategic Energy Planning teams, Corporate Affairs, Future Energy Scenarios and others. Ensure regional stakeholders and their views are captured in both NESO’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system and the drafting of your regional RESP engagement materials. Support the delivery of the East team’s communication strategy including delivering events, arranging site visits and coordinating stakeholder engagement activities. Work alongside the Strategic Leads and Governance Officer to support the organisation of workshops and engagement activity with the East Strategic Board, working groups and other regional stakeholders to progress the RESP. Draft and maintain clear, concise, short reports and slide packs relating to stakeholder engagement in progressing the RESP. Ensure that the key messages are relevant, clear, and pitched appropriately for the audience. Oversee coordination of the East region office, acting as the primary point of contact with the administration team (external to NESO) in Norwich, dealing with day-to-day enquiries, room bookings, enabling provision of equipment and furniture, coordinating office health, safety and wellbeing, maintaining stationary and personal protective equipment stocks and liaising with NESO colleagues as necessary. About You To coordinate stakeholder engagement activities within your region and organization of the East office you will need: Excellent coordination and planning skills to ensure that deadlines are met, governance is adhered to, stakeholders are effectively engaged and high-quality process and outputs are achieved. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Experience of organising and booking venues and making associated arrangements required for setting up and hosting events. Experience of working with or within large, complex organisations – ideally in your region, and in or with the energy and/or local government sectors. Experience of using customer relationship management tools and databases to record activities, and identify insights and actions. Strong organisational and administration skills with a proactive approach to flexibility and engaging others. An inquisitive mind with the ability to join the dots and a willingness to learn about new areas of work.
