We have a fantastic opportunity for a Revenues and Benefits Assessment Officer to join our service and support
the delivery of several statutory and discretionary functions.
The Revenues and Benefits Service sits at the heart of our local authority.
The team calculates and collects income by way of local taxes, council tax and non-domestic rates and uses specialist systems to administer and assess the claims for housing benefit, council tax reduction and other welfare benefits.
As the Assessment Officer, you will
be responsible for assessing and reviewing customer’s personal and financial circumstances to assess entitlement to housing, council tax and other welfare benefits to support the most vulnerable with their housing costs and to
maximise
their income by selecting and awarding appropriate benefits, exemptions, relief or discounts.
You will be the first point of contact to customers
to provide
advice,
you will manage a dedicated caseload and as part of your role you will also administer and bill for council tax and sundry debts including overpaid housing benefit.
We are looking for a
n empathetic and assertive candidate with detailed knowledge of legislation in respect of council tax administration, housing
benefits
and national welfare benefits. Excellent IT skills, communication
skills
and being emotionally resilient is essential in this role.
