Safety Compliance Coordinator Location: Bridgeport, CT & Various Project Sites Job Type: Full-Time Compensation: $90,000 – 105,000 (DOE) + Excellent Benefits & Bonus Program Join a respected Connecticut heavy civil contractor and help keep our team members, projects, and operations safe and compliant. Waters Construction is seeking a Safety Compliance Coordinator to help administer our established safety program on various heavy civil, highway, paving, and public work projects. Reporting to the Safety and HR Manager, the role combines field presence with disciplined recordkeeping, training coordination, incident support, DOT compliance, and corrective-action follow-through. The successful candidate will be practical, organized, confident in the field, and committed to helping our team meet established safety requirements. What You Will Do Conduct scheduled and unannounced jobsite inspections; document findings and communicate immediate hazards to the appropriate supervisor. Track open safety deficiencies and corrective actions, follow up by due date, verify completion, and escalate overdue or repeated issues. Maintain accurate, organized, and audit-ready safety records, including training, certifications, medical cards, inspection reports, and corrective-action documentation. Conduct or assist with new-hire safety orientations using approved company materials and coordinate required employee training. Coordinate pre-employment, random, post-incident, reasonable-suspicion, and return-to-duty drug and alcohol testing in accordance with established procedures. Track DOT and driver compliance requirements, including licenses, medical cards, motor vehicle records, driver files, and required training. Assist with incident reporting and investigations by gathering photographs, statements, reports, and other relevant information. Support project managers, superintendents, and foremen by answering routine compliance questions and elevating significant matters to the Safety and HR Manager. What Success Looks Like Required inspections are completed on schedule, reports are clear and timely, and serious hazards are communicated immediately. Safety records are complete, current, organized, and ready for internal or regulatory review. New-hire orientations, required training, licenses, certifications, and medical cards are tracked before deadlines are missed. Drug-testing and driver-compliance processes are administered accurately, confidentially, and on time. Corrective actions are assigned, tracked, verified, and closed promptly; unresolved issues are escalated appropriately. Field supervisors view the Coordinator as dependable, consistent, practical, and helpful in meeting established safety requirements. What You Bring Three or more years of construction safety, safety administration, regulatory compliance, or closely related experience. Working knowledge of OSHA construction safety requirements and comfort working on active construction sites. Strong attention to detail, organization, follow-through, and written communication skills. Ability to work respectfully and confidently with craft workers, foremen, superintendents, project managers, and office personnel. Experience maintaining safety, training, personnel, or regulatory records. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and electronic recordkeeping systems. Valid Connecticut driver license, acceptable driving record, and willingness to travel throughout Connecticut. Ability to maintain confidentiality and use sound judgment when handling sensitive information. CHST, STS-C, or a similar credential is a plus. Compensation and Benefits Salary Range: $90,000.00-105,000.00 depending on experience and qualifications, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus. The position also includes a competitive benefits package, company vehicle and fuel card for business travel, company phone and computer, paid time off. Insurance : Premium Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage (100% paid for the individual, 50% for family members) 401k and Profit Sharing Plan: Safe harbor 401K profit sharing contribution. One-year vesting period for the profit sharing contribution. Waters Construction is an Equal Opportunity Employer
