What You’ll Do We are seeking a Technical Lead (IC4) to join the Avalara Studio Platform Team, a keyinnovation hub within Avalara that powers automation, integrations, and low-codedevelopment for tax and compliance workflows. You will help shape and scale our internal low-code platform, which allows teams across Avalara and partners to build apps, orchestrateservices, and integrate tax solutions—without writing traditional code.As a senior individual contributor, you’ll partner with architects, designers, product managers,and engineers across teams to build extensible, performant, and developer-friendly experiences.This is a hands-on engineering role with high-impact ownership and no direct managerialresponsibilities. Reports to: Senior Engineering Manager You will work Remotely in India. What Your Responsibilities Will Be Studio Platform Development Build core services and APIs for the Avalara Studio low-code platform including executionengine, component orchestration, agents, and backend runtime. Design systems that support AI-assisted workflow creation, prompt-to-app generation, andintelligent automation. Develop platform capabilities that allow LLM-powered agents to securely invoke services,retrieve context, and execute workflows.Architecture & Scale Design and evolve multi-tenant, event-driven distributed systems capable of supportingboth traditional workflows and agent-driven execution models at scale. Lead architecture reviews, propose platform-wide improvements, and guide the adoption ofbest practices.Workflow and Agent Integration Develop and expose key services as components or adapters (e.g., tax calculation, addressvalidation, notifications). Contribute to MCP (Model Context Protocol) and agent interface integration enablingprompt-driven workflow generation. Design and implement guardrails, context boundaries, and secure execution layers foragent-based systems.Code, Review, Mentor Write production-grade code in languages such as TypeScript (Node.js), C#. Review designs and PRs, and provide mentorship to IC2–IC3 engineers in the team. Drive continuous improvements in observability, testing, and deployment pipelines What You'll Need to be Successful 8+ years of experience delivering scalable platform software and APIs, with deepunderstanding of SaaS application design, microservices, and cloud-native architecture. Experience with one or more backend frameworks: C# .Net, Node.js Hands-on experience in agentic development, including building or integrating AI agents,LLM-powered workflows, prompt orchestration systems, or model-integrated services inproduction environments. Frontend experience with React/Angular is a plus. Prior experience working on low-code/no-code platforms, developer tooling, or workflowengines is highly desirable. Familiarity with: Cloud Platform(AWS, GCP etc), Messaging and orchestration (e.g., Kafka,workflow schedulers), Observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana). Comfortable working in distributed, asynchronous teams and contributing across timezones #LI-Remote Avalara is an AI-first Company AI is embedded in our workflows, decision-making, and products.
