What You’ll Be Doing BAE Systems have been contracted to undertake the design and build of a dedicated Security Operations Centre (SOC) to support the cyber defence of a major international defence programme. The information, systems and networks to be protected will be a mix of Microsoft Cloud services and on-premises data centres straddling multiple regions and classification levels. Design, deploy and configuration of COTS Vulnerability Management applications (e.g. Nessus) including: Configuration to enable Risk based vulnerability assessment. Definition of classification schemas, workflows and reports for operation. Integration with other tools such as SIEM applications, Case Management and Asset Management applications. Specify infrastructure requirements (RAM, Disk, CPU, Network bandwidth) for SIEM applications Support deployment of application to both cloud hosting and containers, and OnPrem hosted VM’s and containers Oversee deployment / implementation activities ensuring that entry criteria are met, all planned activities are completed and that rollback plans are initiated where required. Review and approve all required documentation as part of a release or change including design, deployment, configuration and administration guides. The role is a cyber technical specialist with deep knowledge of cyber threat tools, tactics, techniques and procedures. Develop test procedures to test solutions meet functional and non-functional requirements Core Duties Knowledge and experience of design, build, deployment and operation of Vulnerability Management applications (e.g. NESSUS) including: Configuration to enable Risk based vulnerability assessment. Definition of classification schemas, workflows and reports for operation. Integration with other tools such as SIEM applications, Case Management and Asset Management applications. Experience deploying and configuring Vulnerability Management applications (e.g. NESSUS) in a performant manner on cloud and / or OnPrem. Deep knowledge and experience of Enterprise ICT. Strong understanding of security architecture, in particular networking. Detailed understanding of threat intelligence and threat actors, TTPs and operationalising threat intelligence. Understand TCP/IP component layers to identify normal and abnormal traffic Self-motivated to understand tools that may not have been used before, researching and testing potential solutions. Client-side consulting, including stakeholder engagement and the ability to communicate insights and concepts to others. Ability to build and maintain relationships with the various stakeholders. Ability to talk competently and maintain high standards of behaviour with the client. Ability to maintain confidentiality and deal with matters of national security. Ability to maintain high standards and provide challenging feedback even when it will be perceived negatively. Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 to 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.
