Is this job info correct?

Company Summary Great Plains Casualty is an admitted property & casualty insurance company domiciled in Cedar Rapids, IA. The company provides high-quality, convenient and affordable insurance solutions for motor carriers and independent contractor truckers. Great Plains Casualty was founded in 2007, is licensed in 49 States and holds an AM Best rating of A- (Excellent) Size VII. The company has recently invested in expansion initiatives and anticipates significant premium growth over the next 3 years. Position Summary We are seeking a senior accountant with the range to work across our statutory, GAAP, and transactional reporting, and the initiative to improve our processes. This role spans the full close, statutory and GAAP reporting, the insurance-specific accounting cycles that drive the balance sheet, and the day-to-day accounts payable and receivable that keep the business running. You will work alongside the finance, claims and underwriting functions and see how decisions in each of them land in the financials. Insurance experience is a plus, but it is not required. If you have a solid accounting foundation and want to build real depth in a specialized field, we will invest in teaching you the statutory side. You will gain a working command of how a property & casualty balance sheet comes together — reserves, reinsurance, premium, and surplus. The role also carries exposure well beyond a typical accounting seat. You will have a window into our investment portfolio and the strategy behind it, and into the pricing and rate decisions that drive program profitability. That expertise compounds, and as Great Plains Casualty grows, so does the scope of what this role can become. Financial Close & Reporting Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules for the monthly, quarterly, and annual close Prepare GAAP financial statements, management reporting packages, and GAAP to Statutory reconciliations Maintain close checklists and keep the close calendar on schedule Prepare NAIC Annual and Quarterly Statement schedules, exhibits, and workpapers Record loss and loss adjustment expense reserve activity with the actuarial function and prepare reserve rollforwards Account for written, earned, and unearned premium across direct, assumed, and ceded books Regulatory Reporting Prepare audit exhibits and respond to external auditor requests for the GAAP and statutory audits Prepare state statutory filings and premium tax returns across all licensed states Complete other regulatory filings, including data calls, and guaranty fund assessments. Support responses to regulatory inquiries and financial condition examinations Assist with the Risk-Based Capital calculation and monitor changes to Statutory Accounting Principles Process Development & Strategy Evaluate current close, reporting, and transaction processes and recommend improvements to accuracy, cycle time, and controls Lead assigned process changes from proposal through implementation, documentation, and training Identify opportunities to apply automation and AI-enabled tools to repetitive work Write and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and desk documentation Contribute to decisions on system enhancements and on how the function scales as the company grows Experience Minimum 2 years of accounting experience with a CPA license, an MBA, or active progress toward CPA licensure; or minimum 4 years of progressive accounting experience Working knowledge of US GAAP and the monthly close process Experience with full-cycle accounts payable and accounts receivable Insurance industry experience preferred, particularly property & casualty Exposure to Statutory Accounting Principles (SSAPs) or NAIC Annual Statement preparation is a plus Public accounting experience preferred, especially in an insurance practice Qualifications Four-year degree in accounting, finance, or a related field Experience working with large data sets Advanced Excel proficiency Experience with Sage is a plus Working knowledge of AI and automation tools, with interest in applying them to accounting workflows such as reconciliations, documentation, and analysis of large data sets Location This role is based in the company offices in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on a hybrid schedule of [3] days per week on site Occasional business travel and on-site training
