About MAVI
MAVI places experienced finance and accounting professionals into high-ownership roles at high-growth US companies. We maintain a deliberately high bar on both sides of the placement.
The companies we partner with are venture-backed and private equity-backed businesses building modern finance organizations, and the professionals we represent are operators with a track record of owning the numbers rather than supporting them from a distance.
Our team has built and scaled finance functions at companies including Lyft, Ramp, and SoftBank. We remain closely involved throughout the relationship, from role alignment and interview preparation through onboarding, placement, and long-term career development.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to run the day-to-day accounting for a US-based client company, working remotely from Chile.
This is a hands-on individual contributor role reporting to the client's Controller or finance lead.
You will carry the close, prepare the financial statements under US GAAP for review, keep the general ledger clean, and operate the controls that should exist rather than assuming someone else is watching them. You will be placed with a single US client and you will stay with them, working directly with their finance leadership rather than through a layer of account management.
The role suits someone who wants the whole picture rather than one corner of it.
You will see the close from first accrual to final statement, and you will own the parts that are usually spread across three people — with a US finance lead reviewing your work and available when a call needs to be made above your level.
What You'll Own
- The close. Carry the monthly, quarterly, and annual close to a defined calendar, with accountability for cycle time and the quality of what you deliver.
- The financial statements. Prepare the P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statement under US GAAP for review, with the supporting schedules behind each line.
- The general ledger. Own journal entries, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, and the resolution of ageing items rather than the reporting of them.
- Reconciliations. Own balance sheet reconciliations and drive unexplained differences to resolution rather than rolling them forward.
- Accounting operations. Handle and review accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, and cash reporting, holding each to defined turnaround and accuracy standards.
- Controls and documentation. Operate within the company's accounting policies, internal controls, and approval workflows, maintain the close checklist and SOPs, and flag where a control is being followed in form but not in substance.
- Audit and tax support. Prepare PBC deliverables, respond directly to auditor queries in your areas, and give US tax advisers the accounting inputs they need.
- Reporting. Prepare the monthly reporting package and the variance analysis that explains what moved and why, in terms a non-accountant can act on.
- Systems and process. Support ERP migration and the automation of AP, expense, and close management, and propose fixes for the processes that slow the close down rather than working around them each month.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including substantial ownership of month-end close cycles
- Demonstrated preparation of financial statements, including cash flow, on an independent basis rather than contribution to someone else's
- Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting
- Experience supporting an audit or review, including PBC preparation and direct response to external auditors
- Strong reconciliation discipline and the judgment to know when a balance does not look right
- Solid experience with journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and month-end schedules
- Working experience with NetSuite, QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct, or a comparable platform, alongside familiarity with tooling such as Ramp, Bill.com, or FloQast
- Advanced Excel or Google Sheets, including comfort building schedules others can follow
- Experience working remotely with US-based leadership and clients, and the communication discipline that arrangement requires
- Excellent written and verbal English, with the confidence to explain an accounting conclusion to a non-accountant
Preferred
- Contador Público with Tarjeta Profesional, CPA, ACCA, or an equivalent professional qualification, or active progress toward one
- Experience with multi-entity accounting and consolidation
- Practical exposure to revenue recognition (ASC 606) and deferred revenue schedules
- Big 4 or comparable public accounting experience followed by industry experience
- Experience at a venture-backed or PE-backed US company
- Experience through a first audit or an ERP migration
- SaaS or recurring-revenue experience, including deferred revenue mechanics
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Who This Role Is For
This role is well suited to an accountant who wants to carry a full set of books rather than process a queue within them.
You are careful with detail but you also ask why a number is what it is. You would rather own the whole close than perfect one corner of it, and you are comfortable being the person a US finance lead comes to for an answer — and equally comfortable having your work reviewed.
Above all, you identify issues early, communicate them clearly to the people who need to know, and arrive with a practical recommendation rather than only a number.
