Evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls, including controls supporting financial reporting, FDICIA/SOX readiness, regulatory compliance, operational processes, and governance expectations. Develop audit procedures, testing approaches, workpapers, and conclusions that are clear, well-supported, and aligned with department methodology and applicable professional standards. Identify control gaps, process inefficiencies, policy or procedure exceptions, and emerging risks; perform root cause analysis and develop practical, risk-based recommendations. Monitor and validate management’s remediation of audit findings, regulatory examination matters, third-party assessments, and other control improvement commitments. Coordinate with outsourced audit partners, external auditors, and business process owners to support efficient audit execution, evidence gathering, issue validation, and timely completion of deliverables. Use data analytics, reporting tools, and audit technology to identify trends, anomalies, risk indicators, and opportunities to improve audit coverage and efficiency. Support the development and ongoing maintenance of the risk-based Internal Audit Plan by contributing risk insights, business knowledge, and awareness of changes in products, systems, regulations, and the external environment. Review work performed by staff auditors or project team members, provide coaching and feedback, and help develop audit skills across the department. Maintain and enhance Internal Audit procedures, templates, quality practices, and documentation standards to support consistency, efficiency, and audit readiness. Participate in special projects, advisory reviews, change initiatives, and other departmental priorities as assigned. Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, preparing clear audit reports and committee summaries.
