Posted Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at 6:00 AM Position Overview The Senior Automation Engineer is an experienced individual contributor who designs, builds, and operates enterprise automation solutions that improve efficiency, quality, control, and customer and employee experiences across Security Benefit. The role leads complex automation initiatives from discovery through production, with a primary focus on Microsoft Power Platform and complementary robotic process automation, API integration, cloud, and scripting technologies. This engineer works independently with review at critical points, contributes to solution architecture and platform standards, and serves as a technical resource and mentor for other engineers and business partners. Key Responsibilities • Lead the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of complex automation solutions using Microsoft Power Automate, Power Apps, Dataverse, desktop automation, and complementary enterprise automation tools. • Translate ambiguous or complex business processes into secure, scalable technical solutions; assess automation suitability, value, risk, dependencies, and operational impacts. • Modernize legacy and user-interface-driven automations toward API-first and event-driven patterns where practical, using REST APIs, Microsoft Graph, custom connectors, plug-ins, scripting, and cloud services. • Contribute to automation solution architecture, platform roadmaps, reusable patterns, and technical standards, including decisions about workflow, data, integration, hosting, and support models. • Establish and apply application lifecycle management and DevOps practices, including source control, automated testing, CI/CD, environment strategy, managed releases, configuration management, and production rollback planning. • Build observability and operational resilience into automation solutions through structured logging, monitoring, alerting, exception handling, retry patterns, runbooks, and measurable service performance. • Embed security, privacy, auditability, and least-privilege access into solution design in partnership with Cybersecurity, Risk, Compliance, and platform teams. • Evaluate and apply intelligent automation capabilities, including AI-assisted workflows, document processing, Copilot or agent capabilities, and human-in-the-loop controls, when they provide appropriate business value. • Lead technical troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for complex production incidents; identify systemic improvements that reduce failure rates and technical debt. • Create and maintain solution design documents, architecture decisions, process definitions, test evidence, deployment records, operational runbooks, and support documentation. • Partner with business stakeholders, product and delivery teams, architects, data teams, and infrastructure teams to plan and deliver automation initiatives and communicate technical tradeoffs clearly. • Mentor less-experienced engineers and developers, provide substantive design and code reviews, and improve engineering practices through reusable components, documentation, and knowledge sharing. Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. • Minimum 5 years of experience in automation engineering, software engineering, robotic process automation, application development, or a closely related role, with demonstrated progression in complexity and ownership. • Strong hands-on experience delivering production solutions with Microsoft Power Platform, such as Power Automate cloud and desktop flows, Power Apps, and Dataverse, or a comparable enterprise automation platform. • Experience integrating systems through REST APIs, custom connectors, databases, event-driven services, or scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, or C#. • Experience with source control, CI/CD, multi-environment deployment, testing, release management, and production support for enterprise applications or automations. • Demonstrated ability to lead technical design for complex initiatives, work independently, communicate with non-technical stakeholders, and mentor other practitioners. Preferred Qualifications • Microsoft Power Platform certification, UiPath certification, or a comparable automation or cloud credential. • Experience with UiPath or another enterprise RPA platform, particularly platform migration or modernization programs. • Experience with Azure or AWS services, identity and access management, secrets management, Microsoft Graph, enterprise data platforms, or integration with systems such as Salesforce, SharePoint, SAP, or Snowflake. • Experience applying governance, security, and audit controls in financial services, insurance, or another regulated industry. • Experience with intelligent automation, AI Builder, Copilot Studio, document intelligence, machine learning, or agentic workflow patterns. • Experience establishing reusable components, platform standards, operating models, or citizen-development guardrails.
