Opportunity Overview
Our client is building AI-native software for the global vehicle aftermarket, connecting fleets, repair shops, payments, and parts workflows. This is a senior backend role owning production systems end to end, with direct responsibility for reliable, secure, multi-tenant SaaS architecture.
Role Description
The Senior Backend Engineer will design, build, and maintain production Python backend services for a fast-moving B2B SaaS platform. The role requires deep ownership of PostgreSQL data modelling, API contracts, migrations, testing, and deployments. You will work independently from product intent to shipped systems, integrating payments, telephony, accounting, parts platforms, and AI-backed product features.
Key Responsibilities
- Backend Services - Design and maintain production Python services using FastAPI or similar frameworks.
- Data Architecture - Model complex PostgreSQL data with safe concurrency and transactions.
- Production Ownership - Own migrations, API contracts, testing, and deployments for live systems.
- Multi-Tenant Security - Build secure authorisation, secrets handling, and PII protection.
- Third-Party Integrations - Integrate payments, telephony, accounting, and parts platforms reliably.
- AI Product Features - Develop LLM-backed features using agents, tool calling, or structured outputs.
- Technical Delivery - Translate product intent into scoped, tested, and shipped backend work.
Minimum Qualifications
- Backend Engineering - 5+ years of production backend engineering experience.
- Python Development - Strong production Python experience, ideally with FastAPI.
- PostgreSQL Expertise - Deep relational modelling, transactions, locking, and race-condition handling.
- SaaS Architecture - Experience building secure, multi-tenant B2B SaaS systems.
- Live Database Migrations - Experience with Alembic or equivalent migration tooling.
- DevOps Fundamentals - Hands-on experience with Git, Docker, cloud deployment, and testing.
- AI-Assisted Development - Fluent use of AI coding tools and LLM-backed product features.
Bonus Qualifications
- Startup Engineering - Built a system from 0 to 1 into real production usage.
- Technical Leadership - Led a small engineering team while remaining hands-on.
- Infrastructure Integrations - Experience with Twilio, Vapi, QuickBooks, PartsTech, or similar tools.
