*Senior Backend Java Engineer (API & Kafka) — 100% Remote

Job Description Senior Backend Java Engineer (API & Kafka) Help build the next generation of technology solutions in the insurance sector through projects that encourage innovation, continuous learning, and meaningful collaboration. What is in it for you: • Salaried: $70-75 per hour. • Incorporated Business Rate: $80-85 per hour. • 12-month contract. • Remote work, 37.50 hours per week. • Periodic weekend and after-hours work may be required to support project implementations and system upgrades. • Possibility of on-call support may be required. • Occasional travel between company locations may be required depending on work assignments. Responsibilities: • Lead and participate in the design, development, deployment of Java REST web service APIs and microservices using Docker and Kubernetes. • Ensure service designs follow approved architecture. • Learn and incorporate emerging API technologies into our APIs. • Build event driven services using Kafka • Use and enhance our Dev Ops tools and processes for CD/CI, these tools include Jenkins, Artifactory, BitBucket, Gradle, Continuous Delivery Director, Ansible • Mentor and support colleagues in their capabilities • Identify defects in services, debug and provide effective solutions to resolve the defects. • When required, support existing APIs built on older technologies e.g., Websphere, DB2, Java UI etc. What you will need to succeed: Required qualifications • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Computer Science. • More than 5 years of development experience and progressive information technology experience, including full application development life cycle and systems integration experience. • Strong working experience with Java APIs, REST, SOAP, Spring, JSON, Open API, Swagger, web services, and web hosting technologies. • 1+ years of experience using DevOps tools, including Jenkins, Artifactory, BitBucket, Maven, CDD, and Ansible. • 1+ years of experience with Kafka and/or Kafka Streams, including KSQL. • Experience managing and coordinating team activities in a multi-site environment. Required soft skills • Customer-focused mindset. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze situations systematically and deliver effective, appropriately sized solutions in a timely manner. • Strong organizational and planning skills. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Preferred qualifications • Experience with Kubernetes, Okta, AWS, and MongoDB. • Experience with Group Retirement products and business domains. • Working knowledge of Business Rule Management Systems such as IBM ODM. • Experience with WebSphere, DB2, Java UI technologies including Swing and Spring MVC, and SonarQube for static code analysis. • Exposure to Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) integration architectures and technologies.
