Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Behavioral Science Consultant.


Role Purpose

The Objectives of this Consultancy – Senior Behavioral Science Consultant – is to co-lead behavioral science-focused projects with Save the Children Country Office or Member staff. Tasks include: leading teams to carry out formative behavioral research; design, implement and evaluate behaviorally informed interventions; conduct behavioral science workshops and trainings; write results for both technical and non-technical audiences; lead the technical design of behavioral science funding proposals, among others.


  • Job Title: Senior Behavioral Science Consultant
  • Reports To: Jimena Llopis, CUBIC Head of Behavioral Science Research

Principal Accountabilities

The Senior Behavioral Science Consultant will:

Lead behavioral science-focused projects:

  • Carry out responsibilities for leading 1-2 projects, in collaboration with country office staff to design, implement and evaluate behaviorally-informed interventions. Coordinate regularly with country office staff to trouble shoot and make sure projects and trials are on track from beginning to end. Develop and follow the Detailed Implementation Plan for each project, and adapt it when necessary


  • Behavioral diagnosis. This includes leading desk research activities, workshops with country office staff and other stakeholders, working with country office staff to conduct primary and secondary “on the ground” formative research activities, and lead the analysis of findings.


  • Design, implement, and evaluate behaviorally-informed interventions. This will involve supporting the development of trial protocols and working with country office staff to design and implement evaluations and/or experiments that balance rigor with practical considerations. Determine which evaluation method is most appropriate (e.g., RCT, matched controlled trial, A/B test, rigorous baseline/endline pilot), conduct power analyses and randomization, and determine outcome measures and how data will be collected.


  • Conduct Behavioral Science trainings/workshops, either online or in-person. These workshops involve both an introduction to behavioral science theory as well as the applied behavioral science process.


Experience and Skills

Essential

  1. Flexible, self-motivated, able to manage multiple tasks, team members, and projects efficiently as a team player.
  2. Ability to drive projects and collaborate via a remote working structure.
  3. Excellent management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  4. Fluency and excellent communication and writing skills.
  5. Prior experience working in the Global South would be highly preferred.


Qualifications

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science, Psychology, Economics, Sociology, Neuroscience or a related field, and a master’s degree in a related field.
  • Over 5 years of previous work experience in applied behavioral science projects, with a preference for candidates with experience in low and middle-income countries.
  • Experience designing and/or leading qualitative and/or quantitative research in low and middle-income countries.
  • Professional fluency in written and spoken English required; proficiency in French, Arabic, or Spanish is a plus.
