Location: Remote within Italy (with occasional travel)

About the Opportunity

Piper Maddox is exclusively supporting a global BESS developer in the search for a Senior BESS Asset Manager to support the launch of its first utility-scale battery energy storage assets in Italy.

With two projects totalling more than 200MW expected to enter commercial operation in late 2027, this is a key strategic hire. You will play a leading role in establishing the asset management function, ensuring the portfolio is fully prepared for commercial operation through regulatory compliance, asset registration and operational readiness.

Our client develops, owns and operates utility-scale battery energy storage assets across Europe and is preparing to energise its first Italian portfolio. Backed by long-term institutional investment, the business has an ambitious multi-GW pipeline across Europe.

Working closely with colleagues across Europe, you will help maximise the long-term technical and commercial performance of a growing Italian BESS portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead operational readiness activities for utility-scale BESS assets ahead of commercial operation.
• Manage asset registration, regulatory compliance and ongoing communication with Terna and other relevant market authorities.
• Work alongside route-to-market providers and optimisation partners to maximise asset availability and revenue performance.
• Monitor operational performance through SCADA, EMS and asset monitoring platforms, coordinating corrective actions where required.
• Oversee warranties, service agreements and operational contracts throughout the asset lifecycle.
• Support commissioning, software integration and the transition from construction into operations.
• Review operational budgets, invoices and performance reporting across the Italian portfolio.
• Keep up to date with developments in the Italian electricity market, including ancillary services, capacity markets and regulatory changes.

About You

• Proven experience bringing utility-scale renewable energy assets into operation in Italy.
• Strong understanding of Italian asset registration processes, regulatory compliance and stakeholder engagement with Terna.
• Experience managing operational renewable energy assets, ideally within BESS. Candidates with solar or wind asset management experience are also encouraged to apply.
• Good understanding of the Italian electricity market, route-to-market strategies and commercial optimisation.
• Familiarity with SCADA, EMS or other asset monitoring systems.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to work across technical, commercial and regulatory teams.
• Fluent Italian and English.
