Senior Business Consultant

Role Overview As a Senior Business Consultant, you will play a pivotal role in developing our CIO Advisory capability, helping CIOs and technology leaders shape strategy, maximise business value from technology, and translate digital ambition into pragmatic, deliverable change. With a primary focus on Enterprise & Business Architecture, you will ensure that transformation programmes build sustainable business capabilities rather than isolated solutions, operating as a trusted advisor to clients; shaping enterprise strategy, operating models, and architecture-led roadmaps to enable investment prioritisation and technology-enabled transformation. Alongside core CIO Advisory work, you will also contribute to our innovation capability; exploring emerging technologies, shaping innovation propositions, supporting horizon scanning, and translating new ideas into practical client outcomes. You will be accountable for defined workstreams and discrete advisory engagements, producing high-quality analysis, recommendations and client-ready outputs that connect business priorities, technology choices and measurable value. Reporting to a CIO Advisory Manager (L3), you will operate with a high degree of autonomy while contributing to practice development through reusable methods, assets, propositions, thought leadership and innovation-led client material. This role requires strong consulting judgement, technology curiosity, delivery ownership and the confidence to engage senior client stakeholders while remaining hands-on in research, analysis, facilitation and delivery. Ways of Working Lead CIO Advisory workstreams or discrete advisory engagements, with accountability for scope, quality, outputs and delivery timelines. Structure and deliver advisory activities aligned to client strategy, technology priorities, operating model and enterprise objectives. Take ownership of day-to-day client interaction within assigned engagements, building trusted working relationships and maintaining delivery momentum. Apply CIO Advisory methods, tools and standards consistently, ensuring clarity, coherence and value across deliverables. Support innovation-led discovery, design sprints and workshop activity, helping clients explore emerging technologies and translate ideas into practical opportunities. Actively contribute to the development of the CIO Advisory and innovation capabilities, including creation and refinement of methods, templates, assets and case material. Support the shaping of advisory opportunities through input into proposals, client presentations, engagement approaches and innovation propositions. Manage delivery risks and dependencies within workstreams, escalating issues appropriately and proactively supporting resolution. Subject Matter Expertise Deliver CIO Advisory activities including technology strategy, IT operating model design, capability modelling, investment prioritisation, transformation roadmapping and delivery mobilisation. Translate business and technology objectives into structured advisory artefacts, decision papers, roadmaps and recommendations. Conduct research, benchmarking, process analysis, cost modelling and evidence gathering to support clear, actionable client advice. Explore technology signals and emerging trends including generative AI, agentic AI, automation, cloud, platforms and low/no-code technologies, translating insight into client and practice recommendations. Facilitate client workshops and working sessions, guiding stakeholders through complex technology choices, innovation opportunities and trade-off decisions. Support proposition development, thought leadership and horizon scanning that strengthen the market presence of the CIO Advisory and innovation practices. Work with specialist technology, delivery, ecosystem and partner teams to shape credible solutions that maximise client value. Leading & Managing Lead small delivery teams or workstreams, coordinating tasks, priorities and outputs across consultants and analysts. Coach and support junior consultants, providing guidance, feedback and role modelling strong consulting behaviours. Take responsibility for the quality and consistency of deliverables produced within owned workstreams or engagements. Actively support a collaborative, inclusive and high-performance delivery culture within the Technology Advisory and innovation team. Share insight, lessons learned, thought leadership and reusable assets to support capability maturity and consistency.
