Responsible for undertaking hydrological and hydraulic modelling studies for river, stormwater, drainage, flood-risk, and water-resources projects in Malaysia. The role involves developing and analysing models, preparing technical assessments and flood maps, supporting engineering design, and providing recommendations for flood mitigation and drainage improvements in accordance with applicable Malaysian requirements and guidelines. Key Responsibilities • Develop, setup, calibrate, validate and maintain hydrological and hydraulic models for rivers, catchments, urban drainage networks and floodplains. • Undertake rainfall-runoff, flood frequency, design storm and peak-flow assessments for various return periods. • Perform 1D and 2D hydraulic modelling of rivers, floodplains, drains, culverts, bridges, detention ponds and other hydraulic structures. • Conduct urban stormwater and drainage modelling for residential, commercial, industrial and infrastructure developments. • Prepare existing and proposed-condition models to assess the impact of development on drainage capacity and flood levels. • Undertake flood impact assessments and evaluate upstream/downstream flood impacts arising from proposed developments or infrastructure projects. • Produce flood inundation, flood depth, velocity, hazard and flood extent maps using GIS. • Assess and recommend flood mitigation measures, including drainage upgrading, detention/retention ponds, flood storage, river improvement, culvert/bridge upgrades and other hydraulic controls. • Incorporate climate-change and future-development scenarios into hydrological and hydraulic assessments where required. • Analyse and interpret rainfall, streamflow, water-level, topographic, LiDAR, survey and GIS datasets. • Coordinate with civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental and infrastructure design teams to integrate modelling results into engineering design. • Prepare technical reports, modelling methodology, calculations, drawings, flood maps and presentation materials. • Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors and relevant Malaysian authorities, particularly Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS/DID) and other relevant agencies. • Review modelling outputs and ensure technical quality, consistency and compliance with project requirements. • Support preparation of technical proposals, tenders, project scopes, fee estimates and work programmes. • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and modellers where applicable. Malaysian Regulatory / Technical Knowledge Candidates should preferably have knowledge or experience in applying relevant Malaysian requirements, including: Jabatan Pengairan dan Saliran Malaysia (JPS/DID) guidelines and technical requirements e.g. Hydrological Procedures. MSMA – Manual Saliran Mesra Alam Malaysia (Urban Stormwater Management Manual for Malaysia) . Relevant DID/JPS drainage, flood mitigation and river management guidelines . Local authority requirements for stormwater drainage and flood management. Requirements associated with Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) where applicable. Malaysian rainfall and hydrological data and appropriate design rainfall/runoff parameters. Planning and development requirements relating to drainage, flood risk and stormwater management. Relevant Malaysian Standards and other applicable international engineering standards/guidelines. Essential/Preferred: InfoWorks ICM – urban drainage and integrated 1D/2D modelling MIKE FLOOD / MIKE 11 / MIKE SHE HEC-RAS – river and floodplain modelling HEC-HMS – rainfall-runoff modelling ArcGIS / QGIS – spatial analysis and flood mapping AutoCAD / Civil 3D Good to have : LiDAR and digital terrain model (DTM) processing Remote sensing and geospatial data analysis TUFLOW – 1D/2D flood modelling Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a related discipline . Relevant professional experience in hydrology, hydraulics, drainage, flood modelling or water resources. Good understanding of hydrological and hydraulic principles. Experience in GIS and interpretation of topographic/survey data. Good technical report-writing and communication skills. Minimum 5 years of experience in hydrology and hydraulic modelling.
