About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Construction Cost Estimator to join our client's estimating team. This role is ideal for a skilled estimator with strong residential construction experience who can confidently manage estimating activities with minimal supervision.

The successful candidate will ideally have prior experience working within the Australian residential construction industry and a solid understanding of construction methods, materials, pricing, and project requirements. You will be expected to apply your technical estimating expertise while following established estimating procedures and standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for residential construction projects.
• Review architectural drawings, plans, specifications, and other project documentation to determine project scope and requirements.
• Perform quantity take-offs and accurately calculate material, labour, and subcontractor costs.
• Analyse project plans and identify potential cost impacts, discrepancies, omissions, and variations.
• Obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor pricing to ensure estimates are accurate and competitive.
• Apply current construction costs, rates, and pricing information when preparing estimates.
• Ensure estimates are prepared in accordance with the company's established estimating procedures, standards, and guidelines.
• Liaise with internal teams, suppliers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders as required to clarify project requirements and pricing.
• Review and update estimates where project scope, drawings, specifications, or pricing changes.
• Maintain accurate estimating records and documentation.
• Identify opportunities to improve estimating accuracy, efficiency, and cost control.
• Work independently while maintaining a high level of accuracy and productivity.

Key Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in construction estimating, preferably within residential construction.
• Strong understanding of construction estimating principles, methodologies, and cost analysis.
• Previous experience estimating residential building projects is highly desirable.
• Australian construction industry experience or strong knowledge of Australian construction practices is highly desirable.
• Ability to interpret architectural drawings, construction plans, specifications, and relevant documentation.
• Strong understanding of construction materials, labour costs, subcontractor pricing, and building processes.
• Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate quantity take-offs and cost estimates.
• Strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
• Ability to identify discrepancies, omissions, and potential cost risks within project documentation.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and confidently follow established estimating procedures.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with relevant estimating and construction software.
