About the role Creature FX Technical Directors are responsible for providing a wide variety of dynamic simulations for character-based work; including clothing, hair, muscle and skin. What you’ll do: The creation of simulation rigs for characters and creatures using Maya, nCloth and additional proprietary tools Shot execution using simulation rigs and the delivery of finished assets to the Lighting department Liaison with other departments involved in the creature workflow - Modeling, Rigging, Animation and Lighting Involvement in the development of departmental tools and techniques Meeting set schedules and deadlines while maintaining the highest standards Regularly communicating with Production and Leads regarding schedules and deadlines Bachelor Degree or 5 years full time work experience in lieu Work experience – at least 5-7 years experience in a similar role Previous experience on CG creature projects with some of the following types of dynamic simulation: cloth, hair/fur, feathers, skin and muscle A thorough knowledge of Maya Experience of creating simulation rigs and setups for shows Good problem solving skills and an eye for detail An appreciation of both the aesthetic and technical requirements of the role A strong work ethic, and a willingness to be involved in both development and shot execution The ability to work as part of a team in a challenging and deadline orientated environment A good understanding of pipeline and workflow issues Excellent organisation, communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to liaise across departments You might also have: Programming/scripting experience (e.g. Mel, Python and/or C++) Experience of developing tools, scripts and plug-ins to help streamline workflow Modeling and Rigging skills and experience A good understanding of Maya constraints and deformers A knowledge of Carbon or any other simulation software Experience of working under a Unix/Linux systems environment Application Process To apply, please complete the linked application form or submit your resume and portfolio to [email protected] with the subject line: Senior Creature FX TD - Melbourne.
