Senior Cyber Security Analyst Expressions of Interest Expressions of Interest to join the Corporate Services, within the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism, Hospitality and Sport This is a Clerk Grade 9/10 role with a salary range of $133,348 - $146,945 per annum plus superannuation Temporary opportunity (from 03/08/26 to 02/08/27, with potential to extend) based in Sydney Hybrid working arrangements may be available within business operational needs About The Role Provide specialist cyber security advisory, risk management, governance, assurance and operational security services to support the Department and portfolio agencies in achieving compliance with legislative, regulatory and policy obligations. The role is responsible for implementing and maintaining cyber security frameworks, assessing and managing cyber risks, supporting incident response activities, and providing trusted advice to stakeholders to strengthen the cyber resilience of the Department and its portfolio. Key Accountabilities Contribute to the implementation and continuous improvement of the Department's cyber security strategy, operating model, policies, standards, procedures and frameworks. Perform cyber security risk assessments across projects, products, suppliers, systems and business initiatives, providing clear recommendations to reduce risk and improve security posture. Provide expert cyber security advice to business stakeholders, project teams, technology teams and portfolio agencies throughout the project and service lifecycle. Support the management of security incidents, investigations and major cyber events, including coordination of responses, stakeholder engagement and post-incident reviews. Monitor emerging cyber threats, vulnerabilities and industry trends and assess their potential impact on the Department and portfolio agencies. Develop executive, operational and compliance reporting to support informed decision-making by senior leadership and governance forums. Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, portfolio agencies, technology partners, vendors and government cyber security bodies. Contribute to procurement and vendor assurance activities, including security assessments, control reviews and contract requirements. Contribute to the development and maintenance of security governance, risk and compliance (GRC) processes, registers, reporting and assurance activities. Assist in the development and delivery of cyber security awareness, education and engagement initiatives across the Department and portfolio agencies. Mentor and support junior team members, promoting knowledge sharing and continuous improvement across the cyber security function. About You We are looking for someone who combines strong technical capability with excellent interpersonal skills. You will trive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrate proactivity and a solid work ethic, take ownership of your work, and be able to confidently engage with stakeholders at all levels. To be successful in this role you will have: Knowledge of Australian cyber security standards and regulatory frameworks, such as the Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM), Essential Eight, Protective Security Policy Farmwork (PSPF), NIST Cybersecurity Framework, and other relevant industry standards. Experience in security operations, with hands-on experience using security tools considered highly desirable. Strong critical thinking and analytical problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risks and make sound decisions Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. A professional approach to stakeholder engagement, with proven experience building relationships and influencing outcomes across teams. A proactive mindset, with the confidence to manage expectations both upwards and across peers while taking ownership of outcomes Self-motivation and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Flexibility and adaptability, with the ability to respond effectively to changing priorities and business needs.
