Senior Data Engineer

Project Description:

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our Data & AI team on the Ahold account. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain scalable data solutions that support advanced analytics, machine learning, and business intelligence initiatives. You will work closely with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to ensure reliable, high-quality, and timely data delivery that drives value across the organization.

Responsibilities:

* Develop, test, and optimize code for data products.

* Design, implement, and enhance product features.

* Ensure software functionality and performance.

Mandatory Skills Description:

Hard skills include extensive expertise in the Azure Data Platform and Databricks for data engineering tasks. The role demands proficiency in Python coding within an SDLC framework, incorporating a fundamental DevOps mindset to ensure high-quality code delivery. Candidates should be skilled in building data processing pipelines using both batch and streaming technologies, with practical knowledge of Spark and PySpark and their underlying principles.

- Implement Medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold layers) for data refinement.

- Work with file formats such as Delta, Iceberg, and Parquet.

- Utilize orchestration tools like Azure Data Factory, Airflow, Luigi, or Prefect.

- Apply advanced data modeling techniques (e.g., DataVault, Kimball) in SQL data warehouses, especially with Synapse and Hive.

- Leverage Azure DevOps for development lifecycle activities.

- Demonstrate advanced familiarity with Azure Data Platform components including Data Lake Gen2, Data Factory, SQL, Databricks, Key Vault, CosmosDB, App Services, Analysis Services, Docker/Kubernetes, and Stream Analytics.

- Maintain awareness of security, automation, and cost management in Azure.

- Exhibit expert-level SQL skills and good to advanced proficiency in Python or C#.

- Possess experience with analytics and business intelligence concepts and technologies.

- Have a strong understanding of Data & Analytics services, particularly Microsoft Azure Analytics solutions.

Soft skills emphasize leadership and communication capabilities essential for managing development teams and stakeholder interactions. The role requires the ability to lead technical design and execution of data platform components, establish standards and best practices, and oversee delivery of features or epics. Mentoring junior members and effectively communicating with external stakeholders are vital.
