Senior Data Engineer / DevOps Engineer

Wiztech is looking for a Senior Data Engineer / DevOps Engineer - ClickHouse & DBA Specialist to join our Data & Infrastructure Engineering team We are looking for an experienced, hands-on specialist with strong production expertise in ClickHouse, database administration, data engineering, and infrastructure. In this role, you will help ensure the performance, reliability, scalability, and automation of our data platform Key Responsibilities: ClickHouse architecture: Design, deploy, and maintain highly available, sharded, and replicated ClickHouse clusters in production Performance tuning : Tune MergeTree-family table engines, partitioning, TTLs, materialized views, and query performance for large-scale analytical workloads Database administration : Own backup/restore strategy, replication topology, failover, capacity planning, and disaster recovery for ClickHouse and related data stores Data pipelines : Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines that ingest, transform, and load data into ClickHouse from sources such as Kafka, relational databases, and object storage DevOps & automation : Manage infrastructure as code (Terraform/Ansible), CI/CD pipelines, containerized deployments (Docker/Kubernetes), and configuration management for the data platform Monitoring & reliability : Implement and maintain monitoring, alerting, and observability (Prometheus, Grafana, or similar) for cluster health, query performance, and resource utilization Security & compliance : Enforce access controls, encryption, auditing, and compliance requirements across database and infrastructure layers Collaboration : Partner with data engineers, analysts, and software engineers to design efficient schemas and support new data use cases Capacity & cost management : Track cluster resource usage and drive cost-efficiency improvements across compute and storage Operational support : Participate in an on-call rotation, troubleshoot production incidents, and drive root-cause analysis and postmortems Required Qualifications: 5+ years of experience in data engineering, DevOps/SRE, or database administration roles Proven hands-on production experience administering and optimizing ClickHouse, including cluster design, sharding, replication, MergeTree engines, and query optimization Strong SQL skills and solid understanding of columnar/OLAP database internals Experience with at least one other relational or NoSQL database (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) in a DBA or ownership capacity Solid Linux systems administration skills Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible, or similar) and CI/CD pipelines Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) Working knowledge of at least one major cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure) Proficiency scripting in Python, Bash, or Go for automation Experience with monitoring/observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, or equivalent) Must-have: hands-on experience working with AI assistants/tools (e.g., Claude, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT) for coding, automation, troubleshooting, and daily productivity Preferred Qualifications: Experience with streaming platforms such as Kafka feeding into ClickHouse Familiarity with other OLAP/columnar systems (e.g., Druid, BigQuery, Redshift, Snowflake) as a point of comparison Experience with data modeling for analytics and BI tooling integration (e.g., Superset, Metabase, Looker) Contributions to open-source ClickHouse tooling or community involvement Relevant certifications (cloud, Kubernetes, or database-specific) What We Offer Competitive salary Short Fridays: Monday–Thursday, 9:00–18:00; Friday, 9:00–15:00 (Cyprus time) Opportunities for professional and career growth within Wiztech A collaborative environment where you can influence technical decisions and make a real impact For Cyprus-based employees: official employment, medical insurance, paid annual leave, and additional company benefits
