Build and own the infrastructure behind world-class engineering
Aion Silicon is looking for a Senior EDA & HPC Infrastructure Engineer to take ownership of the platforms that power our engineering workloads.
This is a senior, hands-on role combining deep expertise in Linux-based EDA and high-performance computing environments with strong AWS cloud engineering experience. You will be responsible for the day-to-day operation, stability and continuous improvement of our EDA compute platform, including licensing, job scheduling, shared storage and networking.
Alongside this, you will own and evolve the AWS infrastructure supporting our engineering teams, helping us build a secure, scalable and high-performing environment. You will also play an important role in strengthening the wider IT team’s cloud capability through knowledge sharing and cross-training.
What you’ll be doing
Cloud platform operations
Own and maintain our AWS-based engineering infrastructure across a multi-account, multi-VPC environment.
Operate, optimise and troubleshoot cloud environments supporting engineering workloads.
Support cloud-based job scheduling using technologies such as AWS ParallelCluster and SLURM.
Balance platform performance, capacity and cost.
Maintain and extend Infrastructure as Code and automation to enable secure, repeatable builds.
Own, operate and continuously improve our Linux-based EDA and HPC compute farm.
Manage licence servers, grid services, production job scheduling and shared storage.
Work closely with engineering teams to optimise job throughput, queue behaviour, licence availability and storage performance.
Manage EDA tooling and licensing arrangements with vendors.
Provide the business with clear visibility of tool availability and licence utilisation.
Diagnose and resolve networking issues across on-premises and cloud environments.
Work across multi-VLAN, multi-account and multi-VPC infrastructure.
Apply security, identity and compliance best practice consistently across the estate.
Support the wider IT team with requests ranging from routine service issues to complex infrastructure incidents.
Cross-train colleagues in AWS and cloud-native ways of working.
Help build shared ownership of the platform and reduce single points of knowledge within the team.
You will have substantial experience administering production Linux-based EDA compute platforms within a semiconductor or comparable engineering environment. This should include hands-on responsibility for licensing, job scheduling and platform performance, together with several years of practical AWS experience.
You will also have experience operating cloud-first infrastructure at scale, including workloads that have been migrated from on-premises environments.
Essential experience
End-to-end EDA licence management, including licence servers, feature pools, denials and utilisation analysis.
Production job schedulers such as SLURM, LSF or Grid Engine.
Linux administration at scale using RHEL, Rocky Linux or a similar distribution.
OS and kernel tuning, patching and lifecycle management.
Storage performance tuning for I/O-intensive and metadata-heavy workloads, including NFS and cloud-native alternatives.
Production AWS environments using EC2, EBS, S3, VPC networking and IAM.
Experience working within a multi-account AWS estate.
Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation or similar technologies.
Automation using Python, Bash or equivalent scripting languages.
Source-controlled infrastructure and automation integrated into CI pipelines.
Layer 2 and Layer 3 network fault diagnosis across VLANs, routing and switching.
Monitoring and alerting across compute, storage and licence utilisation.
The ability to communicate technical issues and trade-offs clearly to engineers, vendors and senior stakeholders.
A willingness to support both routine service requests and complex infrastructure incidents.
Experience with major EDA vendor toolchains and licensing models, such as Synopsys, Cadence or Siemens EDA.
An AWS certification, such as Solutions Architect Associate or Professional.
Experience running EDA workloads in the cloud using cluster scheduling, cloud bursting or hybrid compute.
Knowledge of Windows services, including Active Directory and domain controllers.
Experience managing cloud and EDA licence costs and delivering measurable savings.
Experience handling third-party or customer design IP under NDA or export-control requirements.
Knowledge of project-based access segregation.
Experience working within an ISO 27001 or similarly regulated environment.
The ability to attend a data centre occasionally when required.
You will understand that platform availability directly affects engineering delivery. A stalled queue, licence denial or storage bottleneck is not simply an IT ticket. It can cost valuable design time.
You will be calm and methodical when resolving complex production issues, even under delivery pressure. You will be comfortable balancing engineering throughput against compute and licensing costs, and able to explain and defend those decisions to both technical teams and the wider business.
You will also be comfortable acting as the deepest technical expert on the platform while actively sharing your knowledge, developing others and ensuring that expertise becomes distributed across the team.
Key relationships
You will report to the Head of IT, Global, working closely with the existing IT team and engineering teams. You will also collaborate with AWS, cloud and engineering tooling vendors, and customers where appropriate.
This role does not have direct supervisory responsibility, but you will help develop the wider team through cross-training and knowledge sharing.
Ready to make an impact?
If you are an experienced EDA and HPC infrastructure specialist who enjoys combining deep technical ownership with cloud engineering, automation and collaborative problem-solving, we would love to hear from you.
