About the Role We're midway through a significant transformation: moving a mature, high-trust product suite from a legacy monolith toward cloud-native microservices, while continuing to build new AI-powered features for clients who depend on us every night. We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager who can lead that journey at the team level: someone who is equally at home in a code review and a career conversation, who can grow first-time Team Leads and raise the bar on delivery. This is a player-coach role. You will manage a portfolio of 2-4 internal and client-facing projects and their associated teams, contribute meaningfully to architecture and engineering practice, and be accountable for the health, growth and output of your teams, all while keeping one eye on the long-term modernization roadmap and another on the clients counting on you. What You'll Do: Lead and Grow Your Team Own the growth, and performance of your team: Challenge and mentorship, not just oversight Build a pipeline of future leaders through development plans, clear feedback, meaningful 1:1s Lead by example on a difficult client call, a technical impasse, or temporarily filling the TL seat Build a team people are proud to be part of : safe, clear, accountable, and always improving Drive Delivery Across a Project Portfolio Maintain visibility across projects by tracking risks, dependencies, and delivery health. Partner with PMs, Product and clients to manage expectations, roadmap, and timelines. Raise the bar on quality through code standards, test discipline, and consistent practices. Contribute as a Technical Leader Own the end-to-end lifecycle of development efforts from technical requirements to delivery Champion our modernization as a shift in how teams think and build, not just a tech migration. Embed AI-assisted dev tools (Claude Code) into your team’s rhythm, to build habits that stick P artner Across the Business Align engineering efforts with strategic priorities and business goals Build relationships across functions : our best outcomes happen when we work across teams What You'll Need: 7+ years in software development with strong command of modern engineering practices. 3+ years managing people, including Team/Tech Leads or other managers. Proven delivery of complex software in client-facing or consulting contexts, on time and to quality. Hands-on proficiency in one of C++ or Java. These are the core platform technologies. Experience with relational databases (SQL Server) and ideally with OLAP / analytical databases Experience with cloud-native architecture (microservices, containers, cloud platforms) Working knowledge of API security and authentication (OAuth2, JWT, API keys) Nice to Have Full-stack JavaScript Experience (Node.js, React, TypeScript) Payment domain fluency (ex. PCI compliance) Experience with performance monitoring and observability tools (ex. Datadog).
