Oliver Bernard are partnering with one of the UK's best-known technology businesses to hire a Senior Engineering Manager who can combine deep technical credibility with exceptional people leadership.

This isn't a role for someone who's stepped away from technology. We're looking for an engineering leader who still enjoys getting into technical discussions, challenging architectural decisions and helping teams solve complex engineering problems, without becoming the bottleneck.

You'll lead an organisation of around 25 engineers across four cross-functional squads, coaching Engineering Managers and Senior Engineers while working closely with Product and Technology leadership to shape strategy and delivery.

What You'll Be Doing

• Leading and developing multiple engineering teams through Engineering Managers and technical leaders.
• Driving technical direction across several products and platforms, ensuring engineering quality remains high as the organisation scales.
• Partnering with Product to balance customer outcomes, delivery and long-term technical investment.
• Creating an environment where engineers can do their best work through coaching, mentoring and clear technical leadership.
• Helping shape engineering culture, delivery practices and technical standards across the wider organisation.
• Influencing architecture and engineering decisions while remaining close enough to the technology to earn the trust of senior engineers.

We're Looking For Someone Who...

• Has a strong software engineering background and remains technically credible - the stack is primarily based on Golang so naturally the successful candidate will have strong expertise here
• Has experience leading organisations of 20–30 engineers, ideally across multiple teams or squads.
• Has managed Engineering Managers or senior technical leaders.
• Is comfortable operating strategically while still enjoying technical conversations and architectural decision-making.
• Has experience scaling engineering teams in modern cloud-native environments.
• Can balance delivery with engineering quality, technical debt and long-term platform health.
• Enjoys mentoring leaders as much as building great engineering teams.

We're especially interested in people who have:

• Been a CTO or VP Engineering within an early-stage or scaling startup and are looking to return to a larger engineering organisation.
• Progressed quickly through Engineering Management while maintaining strong technical depth.
• Led engineering teams building modern, customer-facing digital products at scale.
