Our client is delivering a significant pumped storage hydro project in the Scottish Highlands, now moving from Final Investment Decision into delivery. As construction ramps up, environmental compliance and planning discharge become the critical path, and this role exists to own that work directly.

The Company

Our client is an established developer in the UK energy storage sector. The project has just secured long-term revenue support under the UK's long-duration storage cap and floor mechanism, one of only a handful in the country to do so. That backing gives real certainty at the exact point a senior environmental hire is needed: construction is funded and moving, not speculative.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the environmental and planning strategy as the project transitions from FID into construction and delivery.
• Manage the discharge of planning conditions, working directly with contractors to determine what can and cannot proceed on site.
• Support the engineering team with environmental and consenting judgement calls through the build.
• Stay ahead of regulatory requirements so the project never waits on compliance to keep moving.

Experience & Qualifications

• Senior experience in environmental consenting or planning within UK energy infrastructure, ideally on a major construction project.
• Experience working within Scotland's planning system is essential.
• A track record of discharging planning conditions on live sites, not just advising on them from a distance.
• Comfortable working directly with contractors and engineers, and confident enough to say what can and can't be done.
• Relevant degree or professional qualification in environmental management, planning, or a related field.
