Remote work for individuals who reside outside Texas but within the United States and its territories will be considered and requires Central Office approval. This position requires you to maintain internet service and a mobile phone with voice and data plans to be used when required for work. Purpose The Senior Financial Analyst provides advanced financial analysis, budget planning, forecasting, reporting, and operational support for Enterprise Technology (ET). This role supports the Chief Business Officer and ET leadership by evaluating financial performance, developing projections, monitoring institutional and self-supporting funds, and identifying opportunities to strengthen financial operations. The position also oversees service center and charge-back activities, including rate development, billing, financial monitoring, and coordination of rate reviews. Responsibilities Coordinate and support ET’s annual budget process. Prepare and analyze operating budgets, forecasts, annual and multiyear financial planning scenarios. Evaluate budget trends, funding strategies, and financial performance; develop cost analyses and recommendations for services and initiatives. Monitor and analyze balances, revenues, expenditures, encumbrances, commitments, and budget-to-actual results across funding sources. Prepare recurring and ad hoc reports, dashboards, projections, and executive summaries. Identify variances, risks, and trends; recommend corrective actions and support reconciliations and closeout activities. Evaluate financial processes, reporting methods, and internal controls. Develop financial models, queries, reports, dashboards, procedures, and analytical tools. Use technology, automation, and AI appropriately while independently validating data, formulas, assumptions, and results. Document and recommend process improvements. Administer ET service centers and charge-back activities. Process billing; review rate proposals and calculations; collaborate with service owners; coordinate central administrative review and approval; analyze revenue, expenses, utilization, and trends; identify financial issues; and recommend timely rate or operational changes to avoid deficits. Interpret and apply applicable financial policies; monitor encumbrances and commitments; analyze position budgets, compensation commitments, and costing allocations; review Workday costing and related business processes; coordinate corrections, transfers, or funding adjustments; and maintain support for staffing and financial decisions. Serve as a financial resource and collaborative partner to ET departments and service owners. Provide guidance and training on budgeting, forecasting, account management, service center requirements, financial policies, and transaction processes. Support special projects, leadership requests, and other related functions as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, economics, or a related field and at least six years of progressively responsible experience in budgeting, accounting, financial planning, forecasting, cost analysis, or financial reporting. Demonstrated experience preparing and analyzing budgets, projections, variance reports, and management reports. Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency, including complex formulas, pivot tables, lookups, data analysis, and financial modeling. Experience interpreting financial data, identifying discrepancies and trends, and developing actionable recommendations. Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial controls, and budget management. Ability to manage multiple deadlines accurately; communicate complex financial information to financial and non-financial audiences; exercise discretion and sound judgment; and translate business needs into data-answerable questions. Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, communication, technical, customer-service, teamwork, adaptability, initiative, and creative-thinking skills. U.S. Citizen, resident, or officially recognized asylee - Applicant selected will be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications Experience with financial administration, budgeting, or accounting in higher education, government, or another complex decentralized organization; experience with UT Austin financial and administrative systems, including Workday, DEFINE, FRMS, UT Direct, PointPlus, Contracts+, or related systems. Experience administering service centers, charge-back operations, or cost-recovery activities, including reviewing rate proposals, analyzing allowable costs, processing billing, monitoring performance, and coordinating rate approval with service owners and central administrative offices. Experience managing institutional, designated, auxiliary or self-supporting, gift, and sponsored funds; knowledge of UT Austin and UT System financial policies, procedures, and core business processes. Experience developing executive reports, dashboards, long-range forecasts, cost-recovery models, and decision-support analyses; proficiency with reporting and data-visualization tools; experience improving workflows through automation or AI with appropriate validation controls. Ability to collaborate with senior leaders, service owners, department administrators, central offices, and cross-functional teams. Current business analyst or comparable professional certification.
