At McGraw Hill we create best-in-class, next-generation learning platforms that are used by millions of students and educators worldwide from kindergarten through graduate school. Our goal is to accelerate student success through intuitive and effective learning tools and content that maximize a teacher’s time and a student’s learning experience. McGraw Hill, the leading provider of digital and print educational resources, is looking for a Senior Financial Analyst. The Senior Financial Analyst will play a central role in the Higher Ed Finance team, serving as the primary analytical resource and business partner for Operating Expense (Opex) planning, reporting, and decision support. At the core of this role is rigorous financial analysis: maintaining robust models, delivering detailed variance and trend analysis, and producing actionable insights that support budgeting and business decisions. A key priority will be driving meaningful improvement to internal FP&A processes around Opex, bringing structure, consistency, and efficiency to planning workflows across finance and the business. This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States. What you will be doing: Serve as the primary financial analyst for Operating Expense (Opex), with responsibility for expense planning, reporting, and analysis Conduct detailed variance and trend analysis comparing actuals to forecasts and budgets; explain key drivers and discrepancies with clarity and precision. Lead and support ongoing Opex reporting, forecasting, and budgeting processes; contribute to quarterly and annual business planning cycles. Identify, design, and implement improvements to FP&A processes related to Opex: streamlining workflows, eliminating inefficiencies, and building scalable, well-documented systems (includes opportunities to automate existing processes). Serve as a dedicated finance business partner to assigned non-finance business units, supporting budget development and ongoing spend monitoring; develop a high-level understanding of Opex activity across the broader organization. Develop and maintain financial models, forecasting tools, and related documentation. We’re looking for someone with: Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Finance, Accounting, or a comparable quantitative/analytical field preferred. MBA or CPA is a plus. 5+ years of experience in FP&A, accounting, or a similar finance role. Significant experience with Opex planning and analysis. Demonstrated ability to improve, streamline, or rebuild FP&A processes and convert complex, ad hoc workflows into efficient, repeatable systems. Strong financial modeling skills and advanced Excel proficiency. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively engage with and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Experience serving as a dedicated finance business partner to non-finance business units preferred. Deep experience with headcount and compensation expense modeling preferred. Proficiency with financial planning software, particularly IBM TM1, preferred. Experience with data visualization tools, particularly Power BI, preferred. Experience with working capital and cash flow analysis preferred. Proven track record of driving process improvements and delivering actionable insights to senior leadership. Why work for us? The work you do at McGraw Hill will be work that matters.
