Who we are looking for State Street Investment Management is the fourth largest asset management firm globally. Global Funds Management is responsible for all treasury, fund administration, and reporting for our registered and unregistered funds globally. This includes valuation, board liaison and reporting, financial and regulatory reporting, taxation, expense accruals, service provider oversight, new product implementations and change management. This role can be performed in a hybrid model, where you can balance work from home and office to match your needs and role requirements. Currently, 3 days/week are required to work in the office. The strategic objective of this role is to provide subject matter expertise and oversight for global fund tax operations, ensuring tax-efficient investment structures, effective management of withholding tax obligations and recovery opportunities, and compliance with evolving regulatory requirements across jurisdictions where SSIM products operate and invest. The AVP will act as a key partner to internal stakeholders, custodians, advisors, and tax authorities, driving process enhancements, identifying risks, and supporting the continued development of the firm's tax operating model. We are seeking an experienced professional with a strong custody, fund tax, or tax advisory background who can provide leadership within the team, independently manage complex tax matters, and contribute to the strategic direction of tax processes supporting SSIM products. What you will be responsible for: Lead the oversight of tax documentation processes with custodians and counterparties to ensure SSIM funds obtain and maintain access to preferential treaty benefits and reduced withholding tax rates across EMEA and North American markets. Drive the preparation, review, and governance of tax documentation required to support tax-efficient investment operations, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and timely renewals. Oversee foreign withholding tax recovery activities, including the identification of reclaim opportunities, coordination with custodians and external service providers, monitoring of claims, and resolution of complex issues. Perform analysis of custodian reports, tax metrics, and market developments to assess tax efficiency, identify optimisation opportunities, and mitigate potential tax leakage. Monitor and interpret legislative, regulatory, and market practice developments impacting fund tax operations, assess business implications, and provide clear guidance and recommendations to stakeholders. Act as a key escalation point for complex relief-at-source and tax reclaim matters, driving issue resolution and ensuring appropriate risk management and stakeholder communication. Lead European Court of Justice reclaims with external tax advisor for EMEA and North American funds. Identify opportunities for process standardisation, automation, and control enhancements to improve efficiency, scalability, and operational resilience.
