In this role, you will independently execute primary design elements for HVAC systems, apply your technical expertise to resolve engineering challenges, and support senior engineers on complex assignments. You will also begin to take on direct client interactions and play an active role in guiding junior team members, making this an excellent opportunity to grow toward a principal-level career path Responsibilities: Design & Technical Execution Independently perform HVAC design tasks including load calculations, equipment selection, ductwork and piping layouts, and system sizing for a range of building types and project scales. Gather, correlate, and interpret engineering data using established procedures to develop well-founded design solutions. Prepare primary design elements for HVAC components of PS&E packages under general guidance from senior or principal engineers. Propose and implement modifications to standard procedures when encountering novel design challenges, drawing on prior project experience. Identify discrepancies in design results, investigate root causes, and recommend corrective actions. Prepare technical specification sections for HVAC systems and equipment, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards. Develop HVAC portions of construction cost estimates and contribute to technical effort assessments. Perform a thorough self-check of all work products prior to submission to senior reviewers or clients. Carry out technical quality reviews of calculations and drawings, documenting findings in the project record in accordance with company policies and procedures. Proactively identify improvement opportunities in existing HVAC design processes and advocate for their implementation. Maintain accurate and organized project documentation throughout the design lifecycle. Coordinate with structural, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection disciplines to ensure integrated and conflict-free HVAC designs. Begin to interact directly with clients to gather project information, clarify scope requirements, and present draft deliverables. Proven ability to manage your own workload, meet deadlines, and deliver technical work within agreed budget and schedule with minimal supervision. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of identifying design discrepancies and proposing effective solutions. Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to exchange technical information clearly with colleagues and clients Preferred: Experience with specialist HVAC applications such as data centers, healthcare, pharmaceutical, or laboratory environments. Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and DDC controls, including integration and sequence-of-operations documentation. Exposure to Building Information Modelling (BIM) tools, particularly Revit MEP, with experience contributing to federated models. LEED Green Associate or LEED AP credential, with practical exposure to energy-efficient design strategies. Basic familiarity with commissioning processes and coordination requirements during construction administration. Experience using design software with energy simulation or CFD capabilities for system optimization. Prior involvement in writing or reviewing sections of technical reports or project proposals. Exposure to design-build project environments or integrated project delivery methodologies.
