About the Role This is a senior individual contributor role on a small, fast-moving Series A team building a cold-chain risk-management and logistics orchestration platform for pharma and perishables shippers. You'll own the data-heavy distributed systems that ingest IoT monitoring data, contextualize it in real time, and power shipment-risk quantification decisions — work that directly protects high-value cargo around the world. What You'll Do Design and build backend services for a logistics orchestration and decision-intelligence platform. Own distributed systems that ingest, process, and contextualize IoT sensor and carrier data at scale. Build predictive systems for on-time, in-full (OTIF) performance and automate exception-handling workflows. Integrate partner-facing data sources — webhooks, message queues, carrier and sensor vendor APIs — into a unified, normalized data layer. Design and evolve event-driven architectures using messaging systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ. Operate and scale services on cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) using Docker and Kubernetes. Collaborate cross-functionally with product and leadership to translate domain requirements into reliable, scalable software. What We're Looking For 5–15 years of backend engineering experience building scalable, data-intensive distributed systems. Proficiency in at least one modern backend language — Python, Java, Go, or Rust; hands-on Python and/or Java strongly preferred. Experience with IoT data ingestion, processing, and contextualization. Solid grounding in relational databases, SQL, and data modeling; familiarity with NoSQL databases and ETL pipelines is a plus. Hands-on experience with event-driven architectures and messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar). Experience deploying and operating services on cloud platforms with Docker and Kubernetes. Experience designing REST and/or gRPC APIs. Strong software engineering practices: testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and observability. Ability to work independently as a senior IC and influence architecture and product decisions without close supervision. Domain knowledge in logistics, cold chain, supply chain, or IoT/telematics is a meaningful advantage. Familiarity with data security, privacy, and regulatory considerations relevant to pharma or temperature-controlled logistics. Prior experience at a growth-stage startup or within logistics/supply-chain technology is a plus. Eligible to work in the United States or able to obtain sponsorship. Compensation & Benefits Base salary $130,000–$160,000 annually, plus equity and a cash bonus. Visa sponsorship is available. Location Fully remote, US-based.
