The Opportunity

Our client is a well-established European technology consultancy delivering complex digital transformation projects for enterprise and public sector organisations. They are expanding their engineering team and are looking for two experienced Senior Java Developers to join a collaborative, high-performing environment focused on delivering scalable, high-quality software solutions.

The team is predominantly based in Italy, making Italian language skills advantageous; however, English is widely used when required, so candidates who are comfortable communicating in English are also encouraged to apply.

The Role

As a Senior Java Developer, you will play a key role in designing, developing and delivering robust Java applications. You'll be expected to approach technical challenges with curiosity, analyse requirements thoroughly, and deliver clean, maintainable code that follows industry best practices.

The ideal candidate is pragmatic, solution-focused and avoids unnecessary overengineering, instead concentrating on delivering the most effective solution for the business.

The client is also embracing modern AI-assisted development practices, so experience using AI tools to enhance productivity and software delivery is highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain enterprise Java applications.
• Analyse business and technical requirements with a curious and solution-oriented mindset.
• Produce clean, maintainable and well-tested code following best practices.
• Collaborate closely with technical leads and fellow developers.
• Contribute to technical discussions and identify the most effective implementation approach.
• Utilise AI-assisted development tools to improve efficiency and code quality.
• Work within containerised and cloud-native environments.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5–6+ years' commercial Java development experience.
• Strong experience developing enterprise-scale Java applications.
• Daily hands-on experience with Docker (essential).
• Strong knowledge of GitHub.
• Experience with OpenShift.
• Experience working with Azure and/or AWS.
• Experience using Agentic AI and AI-assisted development tools.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to balance thoughtful analysis with pragmatic delivery.
• Strong understanding of software engineering best practices.

Language Requirements

• Italian is preferred, as the wider team is based in Italy.
• English is also acceptable, with the team able to communicate in English where needed.
