The Role:

We are looking for a Senior Looker BI Engineer on behalf of one of our high-growth clients to serve as the chief architect of their enterprise business intelligence platform. In this role, you will take complete ownership of their Looker ecosystem, transforming raw, multi-source data schemas into highly intuitive, blazingly fast, and completely standardized LookML models.

What we are looking for:

• 3+ years of dedicated, hands-on experience building enterprise-grade Looker environments. Exceptional proficiency in LookML development, including advanced caching strategies, liquid templating, user attributes, derived tables (PDTs), and extend/refinement patterns.
• Expert-level SQL skills with deep optimization experience inside cloud data warehouses, specifically Google BigQuery or Snowflake. You know exactly how Looker compiles SQL under the hood and how to prevent costly, unoptimized queries.
• Strong experience treating BI assets like code—managing LookML pull requests, implementing rigorous code reviews, resolving merge conflicts, and managing code deployment across production and development branches via Git.
• Proven capability to optimize slow-loading dashboards by utilizing aggregate awareness, refining exploit joins, and setting up smart datagroups for cache invalidation.
• Experience configuring Looker instance settings, managing complex row-and-column level security permissions, managing content delivery, and monitoring instance performance using the Looker Elite/System Activity models.

Nice-to-Have:

• Looker Business Analyst or Looker LookML Developer official certifications.
• Experience extending Looker through the Looker API, embedding dashboards inside external web applications, or developing custom data actions.
• Familiarity with upstream transformation tools like dbt (Data Build Tool) to align data warehouse models with LookML views.
• Background in data visualization best practices, human-centered UI/UX design for dashboards, and dashboard optimization feedback loops.

Responsibilities:

• Design, expand, and maintain a highly modular, DRY LookML architecture that cleanly serves diverse business domains.
• Monitor Looker usage patterns to diagnose, refactor, and optimize inefficient Explores, drastically reducing cloud warehouse compute overhead.
• Build cleanly documented, intuitive Looker Explores, teaching and enabling non-technical stakeholders to build their own reliable dashboards.
• Establish and enforce strict Looker styling guides, LookML validation checks, and repository structures across the analytics team.
• Design high-impact executive dashboards and automated reporting systems tracking core company KPIs (e.g., LTV, CAC, Retention, and Revenue).
