Senior Mechanical Engineer — High-Precision Semiconductor Equipment

Location: Nijmegen (2 remote days per week)

Seniority: Senior — 5+ years

Start: As soon as possible

About the role

Do you thrive in an environment where micrometres decide whether a design works? Our client, a leading international player in high-precision semiconductor equipment, is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to strengthen its R&D and engineering organisation.

You will join a multidisciplinary team of around 35 engineers, working at the limits of motion control accuracy, thermal stability, dynamic behaviour, cost of goods and mechanical robustness. As a senior engineer you act as the technical reference point within your projects: you coach less experienced colleagues and share expertise across the team. This is explicitly not a people management role — the seniority we are looking for is technical.

The position supports a major redesign programme running until March 2027, alongside several product improvement and renewal projects already underway. You get the freedom to innovate and real influence over products used across the semiconductor industry worldwide.

Your responsibilities

  • Design high-precision modules and systems for advanced semiconductor manufacturing.
  • Translate system requirements into robust concepts, detailed designs and validated solutions.
  • Develop and review modules and parts where cost, mass and accuracy are all critical, and support the team in doing the same.
  • Perform complex analyses — FEM, thermal, vibration, dynamics — to secure optimal system performance.
  • Interpret FEM reports and convert the findings into concrete design improvements.
  • Work closely with mechatronics, electronics, optics and manufacturing engineering.
  • Drive continuous improvement in design quality, development process and product performance.
  • Keep your designs manufacturable, cost-effective and compliant with industry standards.
  • Share knowledge and provide technical support to peers within the project teams.
  • Travel internationally on occasion to support projects at global engineering and manufacturing sites.

Your profile

You combine deep technical insight with a pragmatic mindset and a genuine enthusiasm for high-precision technology. Complex engineering problems in a fast-moving environment are what you enjoy most.

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline such as Mechatronics or Robotics Engineering.
  • 5+ years of mechanical design experience in semiconductor, high-precision, robotics or mechatronics environments.
  • Proven experience with 3D CAD and simulation software. Siemens NX is the primary CAD platform in this environment and experience with it is strongly preferred; NX, SolidWorks or Creo backgrounds are all considered.
  • Strong analytical skills and a solid grounding in precision engineering principles.
  • Able to interpret FEM results and translate them into practical design decisions.
  • Proactive, communicative and effective in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrable ability to guide peers through technical expertise and hands-on experience.
  • Structured and quality-driven in your approach.

Good to know

This assignment is not open to freelancers. Candidates who demonstrate the right competencies may, after a reasonable tenure, be considered for a permanent position with the client.
