AECOM Buildings + Places is seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team in Ottawa . This is a new position created to support the continued growth of our building engineering practice and contribute to the delivery of diverse and complex projects across commercial, institutional, and light industrial sectors, including water and wastewater treatment facilities and sewage lift stations. The successful candidate will play a key role in leading mechanical engineering design, supporting multidisciplinary project teams, and providing technical leadership throughout all phases of project delivery. Our teams collaborate on a wide range of projects, including municipal, commercial, institutional, justice, education, and government facilities. Responsibilities Lead the design and delivery of mechanical systems, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and plumbing systems, for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities; Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, designers, and project team members; Direct and coordinate project delivery teams to ensure high-quality, cost-effective, and timely completion of deliverables; Develop design approaches, procedures, and technical solutions to support successful project execution; Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, engineers, and project managers, to coordinate project deliverables; Prepare and review engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, and construction documentation; Perform quality control reviews of designs, calculations, and drawings; Develop construction cost estimates and contribute to engineering budgets and project schedules; Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the growth of AECOM’s mechanical engineering practice. Minimum Requirements To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, with a minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario, in good standing; Current security clearance or the ability to obtain Secret-level security clearance; Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered. Preferred Qualifications 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering following attainment of the P.Eng. designation, including demonstrated leadership in the delivery of mechanical design projects; Experience with Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) is an asset; Experience with HVAC controls and Building Management Systems (BMS) design and specifications; Previous experience leading engineering teams and mentoring technical staff; Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is an asset; Strong knowledge of applicable building codes and industry standards, including NBC, ABC, NPC, SMACNA, and ASHRAE; Proficiency with mechanical design and analysis software, including HAP, AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project, and PowerPoint); Experience with building energy modelling software such as IES, eQuest, EnergyPlus, HOT2000, or RETScreen is an asset; Experience with sustainability standards and certifications, including LEED, Net Zero, Passive House, or Envision, is an asset; Experience in plumbing and fire protection system design; Familiarity with ISO quality management systems; Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary project teams; Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
